A little trip through Utah…enjoy it with me! [ENG/ESP]

If we talk about the United States, shocking and great places always come to mind. We’ve all heard of New York, California, Florida and cities with striking splendor such as Chicago, San Francisco, Miami to name a few of the most mentioned, and yes, it is true that they are majestic and impressive, but there are states and small cities that do not have the same publicity and can leave any tourist speechless. Today I am going to invite you to travel to Utah and some of its beautiful cities. I confess that the first time I visited this state I did not have great expectations -due to the lack of information that is handled- but since that first meeting, I was enchanted, I have come back and I recognize that I always want to return to visit it. From that first trip more than a decade ago. Whenever I see the photos I think it should be more mentioned and much more promoted.

Si hablamos de Estados Unidos siempre nos vienen a la mente lugares impactantes y grandiosos. Todos hemos escuchado hablar de Nueva York, California, Florida y de ciudades con un llamativo esplendor como Chicago, San Francisco, Miami por citar algunas de las más nombradas, y sí, es verdad que son majestuosas e impresionantes, pero, existen estados y pequeñas ciudades que no tienen la misma publicidad y pueden dejar sin palabras a cualquier turista. Hoy te voy a invitar a viajar a Utah y algunas de sus bellísimas ciudades. Confieso que la primera vez que visité este estado no tenía grandes expectativas -por la falta de información que se maneja- pero desde ese primer encuentro, quedé hechizada, he vuelto y reconozco que siempre deseo regresar a visitarla. De ese primer viaje hace ya más de una década. Siempre que veo las fotos pienso que debería ser más nombrada y mucho más promocionada.

People in Utah only recognize one subject, it’s the most famous and the only thing they identify with that state-it happened to me too-but no, it’s much more than a place of religious worship, it’s a site of stunning natural beauties, with a special charm and a place in the United States where you quickly find the essence of the conventional American.
Its capital, Salt Lake City is quiet, serene, and very different from the bustle of New York or Miami. Its streets are wide and people are walking without hurry. They breathe more relaxed, unwittingly, inviting you to enjoy each breath of air with stillness. The Capitol is a small version of the White House, in front it has an immense space of green grass, and you can sit with freedom to appreciate the architecture of that governmental place surrounded by greenery. From that place there is a very nice view of the city.

De Utah las personas solo reconocen un solo tema, es el más famoso y lo único con lo que identifican a ese estado -a mi también me pasó- pero no, es mucho más que un lugar de culto religioso, es un sitio con unas bellezas naturales impresionantes, con un encanto especial y un lugar en Estados Unidos donde encuentras muy rápido la esencia del estadounidense convencional.
Su capital, Salt Lake City es tranquila, serena, muy diferente a lo bullicioso de Nueva York o Miami. Sus calles son amplias y las personas van caminando sin prisa. Respiran más relajados, sin querer, te invitan a disfrutar de cada bocanada de aire con quietud. El Capitolio es una versión pequeña de la Casa Blanca, al frente tiene un espacio inmenso de grama verde, puedes sentarte con libertad a apreciar la arquitectura de aquel lugar gubernamental rodeada de verdor. Desde ese sitio hay una vista muy linda de la ciudad.

One of the nerve centers is the area dedicated to the Mormon religion. They are immense buildings, created with enough elegance and care. You find the giant temple with a solid gold angel at the highest point. Next to it a neighbouring building holds information about its history, with a very large library. This area is surrounded by areas full of flowers that decorate each space between the buildings. They have a fountain in the middle of good size that gives a wonderful touch to the entire enclosure. I did not measure how much place they occupy but it was clear to me that the terrain they cover is immense.

Uno de los centros neurálgicos es la zona dedicada a la religión mormona. Son edificios inmensos, creados con bastante elegancia y cuidado. Encuentras el templo gigante con un ángel de oro macizo en la punta más alta. Al lado un edificio colindante guarda información sobre su historia, con una biblioteca muy amplia. Esta zona esta rodeada por áreas llenas de flores que van decorando cada espacio entre las edificaciones. Tienen una fuente en el medio de buen tamaño que le da un toque maravilloso a todo el recinto. No medí cuánto lugar ocupan pero sí me quedó claro que es inmenso el terreno que abarcan.

The first time I visited Utah was in autumn, it is difficult to explain with adequate words the beauty of the landscape. Yellow, red, orange trees decorate everything -absolutely- the whole state, from the busiest avenues, to the most hidden alleys. It’s like being inside a painting perfectly well. Even the simplest streets invite you to take pictures. That not only made me fall in love, but from that moment autumn became my favorite season of the year, because of the colors that nature gives us and that shine in an incredible way.
I have never been a fan of horror, I don’t watch movies, series or read books of this genre; so Halloween had never been interesting to me. On this first trip I met it up close, and -apart from the terrifying, which continues not to be pleasant for me- the children asking door to door and other details of that celebration I found charming, to the point that here, in Barcelona, so far away from all those customs, in October I put pumpkins in my house to decorate it. Despite this being a widespread custom throughout the country, living it in smaller cities, makes you enjoy it differently. I will do another post commenting on my first encounter with the "Trick or Treat".

La primera vez que visité Utah fue en otoño, es difícil explicar con palabras adecuadas la hermosura del paisaje, árboles amarillos, rojos, naranjas decoran todo -absolutamente- todo el estado, desde las avenidas más transitadas, hasta las callejuelas más escondidas. Es como estar dentro de un cuadro perfectamente bien pintando. Hasta las calles más simples te invitan a tomar fotos. Eso no solo me enamoró, sino que desde ese instante el otoño pasó a ser mi estación preferida de año, por los colores que la naturaleza nos regala y que allí brillan de una forma increíble.
Jamás he sido fanática del terror, no veo películas, ni series, ni leo libros de este género; así es que Halloween nunca me había resultado interesante. En este primer viaje lo conocí de cerca, y -apartando lo aterrador, que continúa sin ser agradable para mi- los niños pidiendo de puerta en puerta y otros detalles más de esa celebración me resultaron encantadores, hasta el punto que aquí, en Barcelona, tan lejos de todas esas costumbres, en octubre coloco calabazas en mi casa para decorarla. A pesar de esta ser una costumbre extendida por todo el país, vivirla en ciudades más pequeñas, te hace disfrutarlo de forma diferente. Ya realizaré otro post comentando mi primer encuentro con el “Trick or Treat”.

About an hour’s drive down the highway you come to Park City, a city I can only define with one word: "Magic". In that place were held the Winter Olympics 2002, which still preserves a museum and several scenarios in memory of the event. It has ski slopes. The city centre is full of small shops and, being a very special place, you will find many people visiting. It doesn’t matter if it is cold-Utah is pretty cold in autumn, it can even snow-citizens love to go to Park City. I think it’s a must stop in Utah. At that time of year the whole city turns yellow because of the tone of its trees. It’s beautiful.

A más o menos una hora de viaje por la autopista llegas a Park City, una ciudad a la que solo puedo definir con una palabra: “Mágica”. En ese lugar se realizaron las Olimpíadas de Invierno 2002, aún conserva un museo y varios escenarios en recuerdo del evento. Tiene pistas para esquiar. El centro de la ciudad esta lleno de pequeños comercios y -al ser un sitio muy especial- encuentras bastante gente de visita. No importa si hace frío -Utah es bastante fría en otoño, incluso puede nevar- a los ciudadanos les encanta ir a Park City. Creo que es una parada obligada en Utah. En esa época del año toda la ciudad se torna de color amarillo por el tono de sus árboles. Es bellísimo.

Summer also offers many options to discover wonderful places. Driving to the state of Nevada you find the Red Desert of the United States, belongs to Utah and is imposing and impressive as well as the city that accompanies Moab -in fact, there we stayed to sleep has hotels, restaurants and places that make you feel in a Wild West movie. According to the citizens of that area, years ago they filmed many of the films of Indians and cowboys that still to date, are cult for fans of Westerns and no doubt, because being walking in that landscape only makes you think that from one moment to the next they will leave from any corner the Lone Ranger and his friend Toro. If you ever feel like going to Utah, don’t miss a visit to the Red Desert. Walking a lot and climbing stone slopes -I recognize that the heat is tremendous but, it is worth it- you get to a rock formation that is iconic in the United States: "The Delicate Arch". When you meet greatness like that, you reaffirm that nature is powerful and superior. The whole tour is full of incredible rock formations, but to reach to see this majesty of nature has no comparison

El verano también brinda muchas opciones para descubrir lugares maravillosos. Conduciendo hacia el estado de Nevada encuentras el Desierto Rojo de Estados Unidos, pertenece a Utah y es imponente e impresionante así como la ciudad que le acompaña Moab -de hecho, allí nos quedamos a dormir- tiene hoteles, restaurantes y locales que te hacen sentir en una película del Lejano Oeste. Según los ciudadanos de esa zona, años atrás filmaron muchas de las películas de indios y vaqueros que aún a la fecha, son culto para los fanáticos de los western y no lo dudo, porque estar caminando en ese paisaje solo te hace pensar que de un momento a otro saldrán de cualquier esquina El Llanero solitario y su amigo Toro. Si algún día les provoca ir a Utah no dejen de visitar el Desierto Rojo. Caminando mucho y subiendo cuestas de piedra -reconozco que el calor es tremendo pero, vale la pena- llegas a una formación rocosa que es ícono en Estados Unidos: “El Arco Delicado”. Cuando te encuentras con grandezas como esa, reafirmas que la naturaleza es poderosa y superior. Todo el recorrido esta plagado de formaciones rocosas increíbles, pero alcanzar a ver esta majestuosidad de la naturaleza no tiene comparación.

Another of the pleasant experiences I did in the summer was fishing. Utah has some beautiful lakes and rivers taken from movies. The cone-shaped trees decorating the landscape are a sight for the eyes.
The "picnic" outings are quite common over there. You drive up to the mountains and occupy conditioned places for families. Barbecues, picnic, are moments to share in nature. The most original part of the ride is that you hear the roar of bears in the mountains of Utah in the distance. It’s very impressive, but it’s part of the ride.
I was fascinated by the museum they have dedicated to dinosaurs. Ideal for children and adults. Very well done, perfectly conditioned to have a good day. Just like the zoo. They have well thought out attractions to share with the family.

Otra de las agradables experiencias que hice en verano fue pescar. Utah tiene unos lagos y ríos preciosos sacado de películas. Los árboles con forma de conos decorando el paisaje resultan un espectáculo para los ojos.
Las salidas a “hacer picnic” son bastante común por allá. Manejas hasta las montañas y ocupas lugares condicionados para las familias. Se realizan barbacoas, picnic, son momentos para compartir en plena naturaleza. Lo más original del paseo es que escuchas a lo lejos el rugir de los osos que abundan por las montañas de Utah. Impresiona mucho, pero forma parte del paseo.
Me fascinó el museo que tienen dedicado a los dinosaurios. Ideal para los niños y para los adultos. Muy bien realizado, perfectamente condicionado para pasar un buen día. Al igual que el zoológico. Tienen atracciones bien pensadas para compartir en familia.

Sometimes you have to open your eyes to what is not so well known, so publicized and from there you discover that there is an incredible world waiting to be discovered. Visit Utah when you can, if you want nature to offer you a different window and a calmer air. I keep that place as one of my best trips, I know I’ll be back, meanwhile, I’m telling you my story.

A veces hay que abrir los ojos a lo que no es tan conocido, tan publicitado y desde allí descubres que existe un mundo increíble que espera ser descubierto. Visiten Utah cuando puedan, si desean que la naturaleza les ofrezca una ventana diferente y un aire más sosegado. Cada vez que viajo tengo la costumbre de comprar una taza de la ciudad o el país, les invito a pasear conmigo mientras me tomo mi café con leche. Yo guardo ese lugar como uno de mis mejores viajes, sé que volveré, mientras tanto, les cuento mi historia.
