I have talked about this trip in ages, and it was sooo much fun to finally do it. There was some unexpected things on the way, like we was stuck in traffic mostly of the time and drive from city to city always took us a lot more time than expected.
We landed in Los Angeles and it was actually kind of cold there. We lived in Hollywood because we was recomended to stay there if it was our first time. We ate at a lot of great restaurants like Tao, Lavo, Yamashiro and other great ones I can't remember the names of. We drove through Malibu, did some shopping at The Grove and Rodeo Drive. We wanted to do so much more like hike to see the Hollywood Sign, experience more of Venice Beach and Santa Monica for example. When we left LA we felt like we needed to go back, and not stay in Hollywood (we only needed to see it once). Rather stay at the beach area. And do some bikecycling as we also planned. A lot of plans, but we spent so much time in the car that it was so little time.
We planned to drive to Palm Springs, but we was still stuck in traffic.
We thought that it was okay to drive around 11 pm, but it was not. Before Palm Springs we just had to drive all the way to Vegas because it became too late. We ended up on driving too fast at the end, because it gets all black after the sun goes down. No streetlights, only the lights from Vegas far away. Google maps says it's a 2 hour drive from LA. But we spent around 4. Is google maps always wrong in LA?
When we arrived in Vegas it was SO MUCH LIGHTS. I loved it.
Just as expected. We was exhausted when we arrived at the hotel, and it was so much going on with people gambling, drunk people and just chaos. I actually didn't expected so much chaos. We stayed at the Linq, a new hotel in Vegas, and we really loved that hotel. It was so quiet at the room, and it was so much going on all the time at the first floor. We thought we was going to die of the heat in Vegas, but all the shopping was inside of the hotels and the streets had AC. It was actually kind of cold because of too much AC.
We drove to Grand Canyon West for nothing. We didn't know it closed at 5 pm. But we still got some great pictures in Arizona. Tried to make the best out of it.
We went from these places and felt that it was much more to explore.
There is a lot of great resteurants and cool places to visit on my google map. I'm sad that we didn't see more of Santa Monica and the beach areas. Vegas is so much more fun that people have said it is, it's just to find the right places and make resteurant reservatians early! But It's not fun if you aren't up to spend much money. We also should started to drive everywhere much earlier, because we wouldn't spend so much time in traffic, and that drained us so much. We have now learned, and I guess I will go back one day and do a new roadtrip. But then only to LA, Vegas and Grand Canyon. Maybe Death Valley too, because that was pretty amazing!
Thank you for reading!
Part 2 is about Death Valley, Mammoth Lake (Yosmite National Park) and San Fransisco

Great to see this trip finally happen for you. You made it to the west coast of USA before me & I’ve lived in the United States for 31 years. Traffic is always a bummer, but seems like you and your friends still got to see many memorable things.
Yes. Finally. Me and my best friend have plans to go back in a few years. We just cant get over those places we wanted to visit, but didnt got any time for it. Even Universal was a little bummer. Those 2 hours in line just distroyed so much. But we changed the roadtrip where we start in LA (by the beach this time) -> Vegas, and stay one night in Page.
