Europäisches Parlament

Here comes my second part from Strasbourg.
I already told you about the old town last time, but of course Strasbourg has even more to offer.
Actually, it already continues a few metres above the old town canal.
The university has its building here, almost in the centre.
In keeping with the style, there is a statue of Göthe in front of the university.
If you then go a little further, about 10 minutes by bike, you get to the European Parliament.
This was a must for us. After all, this is the centre of power in Europe. The European Court of Justice is also on this site.
We actually wanted to go inside, but we were there during the summer break and the Parliament was also closed to visitors. What a pity.
Parliament almost 705 MPs, 27 committees of all kinds, It houses 7 political groups and 45 delegations.
Right next door is the Orangerie Park. One of Strasbourg's recreational areas, but not the only one.
There is actually a small zoo in the park. However, it has been closed since 2022. It was decided that this zoo is not really appropriate for the species and now the birds can use this part of the park exclusively for themselves, without any people who could disturb them. I think it's a nice and right decision, even if we had to give up part of the park as a result.
Otherwise, it is a beautiful spot of nature to enjoy.
And in the middle of it all stands the orangery that gave the whole thing its name.
It has to be said, though, that the building looks rather farmed. It's very nice from a distance, but when you get closer you get the feeling that no one has been in there for years.
The residential area around the parliament was as expected. This is probably where the somewhat richer Strasbourgers or parliamentarians live.
Funny anecdote: not far from the properties of the rich, we found this little garden under a bridge. I already made a separate post about it, but I have to show it again here.
Not far away is the Rhine.
So much for the Parliament in Strasbourg and what you can do there on sunny days.
Because it rained a lot, we also had to find something to do on not so nice days. That will come in the next post about Strasbourg.
When I was younger I always wanted to work in the European Parliament and live in Strasbourg 🙂 But life happened and led me to another direction...
I have actually never been to Strasbourg, so thank you for taking me on a tour. I'm sorry to hear that the weather wasn't ideal, but I'm looking forward to see what you've done during those rainy days.
Have a nice day!
Thank you. Working there is certainly an exciting thing. At least if you are a politician and want to make a difference.
Too bad it was closed. I would have liked to be in there.
