Trieste: a magnificent and maritime city in Italy

I always say that Italy is beautiful, and so are all its cities, it is always a pleasure to discover them, walk around and enjoy not only their atmosphere but also their wonderful buildings and views. So this time we are going to see one of them.

This is Trieste, an Italian city located very far east of the country, almost on the border with Slovenia, in fact, from one of its points on the coast of the Adriatic Sea in the distance you can already see the other country.
And Trieste is a city with a different essence, a city belonging to the Austro-Hungarian Empire in the past has been endowed with palatial architecture and great elegance in its facades, and at the same time it is a commercial port city closely linked to the sea, and all of this comes together in the same charming space.

Walking along the coastal area of the historic center, we were amazed by the beauty of important and imposing buildings, be it the magnificent Government Palace with a large monument in front, ancient banks, elegant residences, Byzantine churches or a classic theater at the foot of a water channel that goes into the city. Noble buildings are combined with the boats of those who work at sea, in an unique fusion.

Many of them are concentrated in large open areas with sea air and smell, and other beautiful palaces are located on its streets towards the interior. But outside there is more.

On the very edge of the sea there are emblematic monuments paying tribute to those who gave their lives in past conflicts, and also to the people of maritime life who live that landscape and horizon even on cloudy days on a daily basis. Because we see not too far away the structures of a very important merchandise port, essential for the area.

But we can see more, and there is a must-see place: Miramare Castle
So we moved a little outside the historic center to reach that certainly tourist spot, a beautiful castle, also elegant of course and with a lot of history. It was also the protagonist of part of that history and thus it has been exposed on a stone slab, and the American army passed through there in the 20th century, and now fortunately it is only a memory, and a place to visit without a doubt.

You have to see everything, the entire castle, and the entire classic palatial park that surrounds it, fountains, statues and manicured gardens with geometric shapes and other wilder ones that create pleasant roofs, the green combines with the sea. And from there we enjoyed the views, looking at the sea, in the distance, at those other coasts of a different country, between the mist and the clouds.

And on the other side from the castle we also discovered an entertainment area for the lucky ones, for those who have boats moored in the nearby pleasure port.

Once again history, architecture and love for the sea come together in the same place, in the magnificent and maritime Italian city of Trieste.
