Hello our beloved Hiveans,
How are things going for you? I hope everything is going well and that you are looking forward to the new experience in 2022. Are you a believer in the importance of youth? Personally, I agree. I believe that we can accomplish everything when we are young, therefore do whatever you want before you reach a particular age. Traveling is one of my favorite pastimes since I know that the more I travel, the more I gain. My wife and I got the opportunity to visit Hoi An Ancient Town before the Covid-19. Hoi An is one of my favorite places in Vietnam since it has its own unique beauty, friendly residents, delicious food, and outstanding cultural values, making it one of the most popular tourist attractions in Vietnam and the world.
Hoi An is also recognized as an international commercial port where trade ships from the West, China, and Japan met between the 18th and 19th centuries, influencing the architecture of Hoi An, which is a mix of Japanese, Chinese, and Vietnamese design.
Hoi An ancient town is located in the Quang Nam province in central of Viet Nam with the lyrical Thu Bon River runs through the town. We traveled the train from Quang Binh to Da Nang, spending 6 hours on the way, and then booked a taxi to arrive to Hoi An town.
We chose to stay in the Old Yellow House. This is a little guesthouse in the heart of Hoi An, down an alley, so it wasn't too noisy. We had a room on the top level with a great view of the sunrise and sunset. The house is mostly brown in color, with yellow paint that is distinctive of the town.
We loved Hoi An and were eager to explore this charming place, which was classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1999.
It was the most significant trading port in Southeast Asia in the 16th and 17th centuries, and visiting this place is like visiting a living museum. It exchanged silk seramics and spices with Europe, China, and Japan, as well as with India.
We awoke early in the morning to take in the atmosphere of Hoi An, and we observed out the window at the sunrise while sipping a cup of coffee made by my wife.
We then walked down the street to find a place to have breakfast.
My friends told me that there are many wonderful cuisines to pick from, but the most famous is Banh Mi Phuong, which I should try if I come here. For both local and foreign tourists visiting Hoi An, Banh Mi Phuong has become a renowned name.
After breakfast, we resumed our journey by visiting some of the town's most well-known attractions. We began with the well-known Japanese Covered Bridge, which was constructed in the 17th century. With a Japanese pagoda design, it is also known as the Cau Pagoda. After that, we went to view the Phung Hung Old House. It was built in the 18th century and has been home to the same family for eight generations.
We came across and sensed the city's highly dynamic atmosphere when traversing the old town during the day until dusk. It was fascinating to take a stroll through the streets.
The full beauty of Hoi An, it is said, can only be experienced at night. When night falls, hundreds of colorful lanterns will be lit up in the old town, giving the impression that you are lost in the bustling atmosphere of an ancient Nguyen Dynasty trading port. It was early evening, which made it the ideal time to explore Hoi An. We went to the market and had some food for dinner, as well as learning about how the locals lifestyle at night. We picked tofu, fresh vegetables, pork and noodles, and spring rolls. It was delicious.
Going for a walk around Hoi An at night was a bit touristic, but there was no pollution or traffic because visitors were only allowed to walk or cycle. In Hoi An, there were hundreds of tailors selling souvenirs, paintings, sculptures, and clothes...
Another interesting thing we did here at night was charter a boat and cruise down the Hoai River to see the ancient lovely town. It was quite comforting and pleasurable. You can drop off lovely lanterns on the river to pray for best of luck for your loved ones, such as family and friends, right here. In this "Yellow Town," there is also a long-standing tradition and a great culture.
We didn't need to spend a full day exploring Hoi An because it isn't particularly vast, but it is a fantastic destination for many people visiting Vietnam. This town is not only known for historical monuments, but also for kind and welcoming residents and delicious cuisine, making Hoi An an amazing experience for visitors like us. This is also why we chose Hoi An as the location for our wedding photos, and we will continue to visit Hoi An whenever we have the opportunity.
