Hi there. In this travel series post our travel group decide to visit Beijing's Daxing Airport in China. This was one of my plans as I have been watching Youtube videos of various China airports. They look good and it was a good opportunity to visit one of China's airports.
Visiting this airport was one of the biggest highlights of our China trip.
Getting To Daxing Airport
We got to Beijing's Daxing Airport by metro/subway. The metro station you want to go to is Caoqiao Station. It is on Line 10 in blue and on Line 19 in the light pink. Beijing's metro system is very big and quite confusing at first. From our hotel the single far ticket was around 4 or 5 CNY which is around 1 CAD.
When you reach Caoqiao station you want to take another train via the Daxing Airport Express to get to Daxing Airport. The fare for a single person is around 30 CNY (6 CAD per single fare trip). This second train trip takes around 20 to 30 minutes. (I don't remember.)
Here are some pictures of the station, the train's interiors and more.
Entering The Airport
When you enter the airport from the train it does seem a bit dark. After getting into the more open areas of the airport you see how big this place is. The architecture, designs and aesthetics look crazy. Beijing's Daxing Airport is a much much better airport than Toronto's Pearson Airport from looks alone. As we explore more of the airport we get more amazed.
Sleep Pods At The Airport
There is one section of the airport where there are sleeping pods! I don't know where the nearest hotel is from the airport but you can take short naps or get some sleep in one of these sleeping pods.
You can nap for 30 minutes for the cost of 35 RMB. This is around 7 CAD. A 3 hour rest costs 185 RMB which is under 40 CAD. An overnight rest costs 333 RMB. The sign has text in English and Russian (I think) with the prices on the right.
Abundance Of Food Options At Daxing Airport
Daxing Airport feels like a mall in certain areas. There are a good number of food options at the airport. You have Luckin Coffee, McDonalds, Ramen Noodle joints, Chinese bakeries and Chinese restaurants. You can get large plates of food or a large noodle bowl of soup for under 10 CAD (50 RMB assuming 1 CAD for 5 RMB). At Toronto's Pearsons Airport I think I paid 12 CAD for a crappy and bland Banh Mi Sandwich. Costs are much cheaper in Beijing versus Toronto if you carry dollars.
I want to note that the Luckin Coffee at this airport does allow you to order coffee in-person without ordering online. At the other Luckin coffee locations you have to order online, pay and then pickup in store. There is no typical in-person ordering coffee. This is different compared to coffee joints in Canada (Toronto area specifically).
Some History Exhibits At The Airport
If you go to the higher floors in this Airport there are more restaurants as well as some history exhibits. These are good for passing the time while you wait for your flights.
More Pictures
While visiting Daxing Airport I made sure to take as many photos as I could. Pictures from my Samsung A50 phone at the time.
Our travel group did return back to our hotel. We used the airport train and metro again. Here are some more pictures.
