by Dexmark
Kaduna is a northern state in Nigeria, blessed with Natural resources such as limestones, iron, and fertile land for carrying out commercial and subsistence agriculture.
The Northeast central state was founded by general Military leader, Murtala Muhammad Betwixt 1967-1987, with all its district amalgamated without a referendum.
Before the amalgamation, that state was first administrated by the British government, under sir Lord Lugard who later moved their colonial office from Jedda to Zungeru to rule the state effectively but after Lagos province was amalgamated in 1906 the state started to gain influence and wealth.
At the onset of 1916, Kaduna state was amalgamated with other northern states and it became a capital where Sir lord Lugard carry out most of its Colonial activities
The land is said to be very good for the cultivation of groundnuts, rice, onions, beans, maize and potatoes. And the state is accredited for creativity in making different types of maize food. Such as “to
Howbeit, the name Kaduna is Believed to have been derived from Hausa Dialect, “Kada” meaning crocodile; the Kaduna River mostly host a large crocodile population.
In 1967, the old State was segregated into 6 regions, leaving Kaduna as the capital of the North-Central state. And in 1987, Katsina was carved out from Kaduna state, under the paradigm of the Kaduna government.
In 2019, the state celebrated its 100th anniversary making it one of the oldest states in Nigeria.
District or different towns where I have visited.
Some of the prominent regions I have visited is Zaria and Ikara districts which consist of many towns including Ikara, Malikachi, Furana, Danlawan, Kurmin Kogi, Janfalan, Auchan, Paki, Pala, Saulawa, pampaida, Rumi, Saya-says, and visite
These are the towns I have visited, the most prominent one I am going to talk about is Ikara because I spent almost 9 months in that town. During my service year.
History of Ikara town
Dating back to 1808, it is acknowledged that the people of Ikara were First known as the Jukun immigrants that fled from the attack of Muslim scholars from Kano for refusing to accept Islam.
The lkara local government was created in 1976 from the defunct Zaria province. During my at the town, I discovered that the town had a distinct administrative centre including Health Care Centre, Markets banks and police office
And elucidating on its local government, it had two districts
Namely: IKara and Paki districts which is divided into 6 different departments…
Including :
Personnel Department
Finance & Supply Department
Works Department
Agricultural Department
Health Department
Education Department
Each of these departmental offices was situated at open vicinities standing very near to the town’s local government Secretariat Except the educational Department.
AGRICULTURE
The town mainly depends on farming and cattle rearing, and most of their fertilizers are supplied by a Commercial firm known as “Bagona agricultural firm. This firm supply farm fertilisers and other farm essentials to reliable and productive farmers and at the end of the harvest seasons, the firm is paid back with 30% of the farmer’s produce
THE PEOPLE
However, Ankara people are very good people, most of them are Generous and know how to treat visitors and strangers well. And one thing I learnt about them is their language, most of the indigenes speak Hausa and it’s only the educated ones that always manage to speak English.
MOUNTAINS
One of the highest Mountain I have visited is Ikara Hill, it’s the highest mountain in the town, with Latitude: 11.180091 And Longitude: 8.222163, And has a co-ordinate height of 11.180091, 8.222163
I did capture some photos on the day I visited the Mountain.....
Photos
Ikara Hill, photo captures by me, at the left is my friend, Coper Mubarak, while I stood at the right.
Notwithstanding, after emphasizing the mountains, it’s also cogent to know that the town has about 120 secondary schools with Free education opportunities. During my services year, I’d served as a Tutor in one of the situated at pampaida.
The school was composed of four Cemented buildings, one was used as a school library and three as classrooms for senior and junior students... While the last was used as a teacher’s bureau.
Network
In Ikara town, phone Network coverage are scarce, the only network that works well in the environment is Airtel Network while other Networks such as MTN, GLO Nigeria don’t have good Networking signals.
However I really enjoyed my stay at Ikara because the people are very generous and not only that, it’s a region of multi ethnic people, therein you can find Yoruba, Igbo and different indigenous people of Nigeria, coming together to trade and do lucrative business.
Conclusion
Today, Kaduna is known as a centre of learning and today the state contribute about 30% SDGP of agricultural produce in Nigeria and also been recorded as the 5th largest State in Nigeria Economy from 2002- 2008.
