RE: People and Cacti, Botanical Garden in Balchik

If I was a queen I would build a castle there too! I think that I've seen a picture of Maria in one of Hohenzollern castles, so I guess she married into the family, right?

Those cacti look so healthy! I can keep almost all plants alive and rather happy except of cacti. I simply don't have luck with them and I wish that they looked like those in that botanical garden 🙂

Have a lovely day!

Thank you! It's the same with me. I can't do it with cacti. I probably give them too much water when I really shouldn't be giving them any...

You're right about Queen Mary. The first king of Romania was Carol I, he had no children and his successor was a nephew, Ferdinand. Ferdinand married Maria, the queen who chose Balchik for her summer residence.

I extracted this information from Wikipedia:

Carol I, original name Karl Eitel Friedrich, Prinz Von Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen, (born April 20, 1839, Sigmaringen, Prussia [now in Germany]—died October 10, 1914, Sinaia, Romania), first king of Romania, whose long reign (as prince, 1866–81, and as king, 1881–1914).

Ferdinand (Ferdinand Viktor Albert Meinrad; 24 August 1865 – 20 July 1927), nicknamed Întregitorul ("the Unifier"), was King of Romania from 1914 until his death in 1927. Ferdinand was the second son of Leopold, Prince of Hohenzollern and Infanta Antónia of Portugal, daughter of Ferdinand II of Portugal and Maria II of Portugal. His family was part of the Catholic branch of the Prussian royal family Hohenzollern.
In 1889, Ferdinand became Crown Prince of the Kingdom of Romania, following the renunciation of his father (in 1880) and older brother, William (in 1886), to the rights of succession to the royal crown of Romania. From the moment he settled in Romania, he continued his military career, gaining a series of honorary commands and being promoted to the rank of corps general. He married in 1893 Princess Maria Alexandra Victoria, later known as Queen Marie of Romania, granddaughter of Queen Victoria and Emperor Alexander II and daughter of Alfred, Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha and Grand Duchess Maria Alexandrovna of Russia.
