Today I bring you to discover a truly special place: the Vatican Gardens, or the Gardens where the Pope lives in Vatican City!
The visit to the Vatican Gardens is divided into 3 parts: the Italian Garden, the English Garden and the Pope's Garden. Every corner of this attraction is a beauty for the eyes, it is well preserved and with attention to detail. For this reason, I took several photos and thought I'd divide the story of my adventure to make reading less boring. So today, let's start with the first part!
It is a place full of charm, as it's usually open to the public only at certain times and following a (very expensive!) reservation under strict supervision on a guided tour.
This garden initially struck me with its vast extension. In fact, it occupies two thirds of the tiny Vatican City and constitutes the green lung of the neighborhood!
The Gardens were built in 1279, under the pontificate of Pope Nicholas III, who wanted to build his new residence in this area. The artistic development, however, occurred mainly between the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The main sculptors who worked on this work were:
- Donato Bramante
- Pirro Ligorio
- Antonio Tempesta
- John the Baptist
- And many others…
Walking through the streets, you immediately realize that nothing is left to chance and every detail is meticulously taken care of.
Over the centuries, different Popes have made changes to the original project, each inserting details that have distinguished their government.

Oggi vi porto a conoscere un luogo davvero speciale: i Giardini Vaticani, ovvero i Giardini dove abita il Pontefice a Città del Vaticano!
La visita dei Giardini Vaticani è divisa in 3 parti: il Giardino all’italiana, il Giardino all’inglese e l’Orto del Papa. Ogni angolo di questa attrazione è una bellezza per gli occhi, è ben conservato e curato nei dettagli. Per questo motivo, ho scattato diverse foto e ho pensato di dividere il racconto della mia avventura per rendere la lettura meno noiosa. Oggi, quindi, partiamo con la prima parte!
Si tratta di un posto colmo di fascino, in quanto solitamente è aperto al pubblico solo in alcuni orari e in seguito a prenotazione (molto costosa!) sotto stretta sorveglianza in una visita guidata.
Questo giardino mi ha colpito inizialmente per la sua vasta estensione. Infatti, occupa i due terzi della minuscola Città del Vaticano e costituisce il polmone verde del quartiere!
I Giardini sono stati costruiti nel 1279, sotto il pontificato di Papa Niccolò III, che volle edificare in questa zona la sua nuova residenza. Lo sviluppo artistico, però, si ebbe principalmente tra i secoli Cinquecento e Seicento. I principali scultori che hanno lavorato a quest’opera sono stati:
- Donato Bramante
- Pirro Ligorio
- Antonio Tempesta
- Giovanni Battista
- E molti altri…
Passeggiando tra le stradine, ci si rende subito conto che nulla è lasciato al caso e ogni dettaglio è curato in modo minuzioso.
Nel corso dei secoli, i diversi Papi hanno apportato modifiche al progetto originale, ognuno inserendo dei dettagli che hanno contraddistinto il loro governo.
