Hola amigos, hoy quiero hablarles de un lugar muy lindo que tuve la oportunidad de conocer el día de hoy: el zoológico de Cali, Colombia. Está ubicado en la carrera 2a Oeste de Terrón Colorado y es uno de los zoológicos más grandes de Colombia, así como uno de los 4 más importantes de Latinoamérica. Fue fundado en el año 1969 dentro de un bosque a orillas del río Cali y alberga alrededor de 2500 animales de 233 especies, incluyendo anfibios, mamíferos, reptiles, aves y mariposas.
Hello friends, today I want to tell you about a very nice place that I had the opportunity to visit today: the zoo of Cali, Colombia. It is located on Carrera 2a Oeste de Terrón Colorado and is one of the largest zoos in Colombia, as well as one of the 4 most important in Latin America. It was founded in 1969 in a forest on the banks of the Cali River and houses about 2500 animals of 233 species, including amphibians, mammals, reptiles, birds and butterflies.
Este zoológico es muy importante porque promueve y ejecuta varios programas para la recuperación y preservación de la biodiversidad colombiana, además de contar con amplios programas ambientales para concientizar sobre el cuidado del medio ambiente. El zoológico está abierto de jueves a domingo desde las 7 am hasta las 4 pm, y se recomienda visitarlo temprano ya que algunos animales se guardan después del mediodía. El recorrido es de aproximadamente 1,5 kilómetros y cada estación es cautivadora.
This zoo is very important because it promotes and executes several programs for the recovery and preservation of the Colombian biodiversity, besides having extensive environmental programs to raise awareness about the care of the environment. The zoo is open from Thursday to Sunday from 7 am to 4 pm, and it is recommended to visit early because some animals are kept after noon. The tour is approximately 1.5 kilometers long and each station is captivating.
Hace muchos años, el zoológico estuvo a punto de cerrar definitivamente debido a un manejo inadecuado, pero gracias al esfuerzo, trabajo y concientización, logró mejorar significativamente y evitar su clausura. A pesar de que hay quienes piensan que los zoológicos solo se utilizan para entretenimiento, la verdad es que estos lugares han contribuido a la recuperación de especies amenazadas según el Libro Rojo de la Fauna.
Many years ago, the zoo was on the verge of closing for good due to inadequate management, but thanks to the effort, work and awareness, it managed to improve significantly and avoid its closure. Although some people think that zoos are only used for entertainment, the truth is that these places have contributed to the recovery of endangered species according to the Red Book of Fauna.
Personalmente, tuve la oportunidad de estudiar este tema cuando estaba en la universidad, por lo que visitar el zoológico de Cali años después de haber investigado sobre él fue una experiencia muy gratificante. Pude tomar fotos hermosas de varios animales, entre mis favoritos se encuentran el capibara y la rana venenosa por los colores increíbles de su piel.
Personally, I had the opportunity to study this subject when I was in college, so visiting the Cali Zoo years after researching about it was a very rewarding experience. I was able to take beautiful pictures of several animals, among my favorites were the capybara and the poison dart frog because of the incredible colors of their skin.
El 92% de la especies que se encuentra en el zoológico son especies Colombianas , los animales tiene una apariencia de un buen cuidado y alimentación que fue lo que más me gustó, el zoológico a logrado la reproducción de animales bajo amenazas como el cóndor de los andes el cuales son traídos desde chile reproducios también en un zoológico , también se ha recuperados especies como nutrias, rana venenosas, pajuiles,flamencos. Lo cual me pareció de gran importancia ya que sin esto miles de especies ya estuvieran completamente desaparecidas.
92% of the species found in the zoo are Colombian species, the animals have an appearance of good care and feeding which was what I liked most, the zoo has achieved the reproduction of animals under threat as the condor of the Andes which are brought from Chile also reproduced in a zoo, has also recovered species such as otters, poison dart frogs, pajuiles, flamingos. This seemed to me of great importance because without this thousands of species would have completely disappeared.
El zoológico cuenta con áreas como el hormiguero, acuario y mariposario, que fueron mis favoritas. Es un lugar increíble para pasar un día diferente, aprender sobre la preservación de especies y disfrutar de espacios agradables para descansar, como un pequeño cafetín y viveros con venta de plantas, especialmente de especies de cactus.
The zoo has areas such as the anthill, aquarium and butterfly garden, which were my favorites. It is an incredible place to spend a different day, learn about the preservation of species and enjoy pleasant spaces to rest, such as a small cafe and nurseries selling plants, especially cactus species.
