Hello world travelers! Your cup-bearer is here to share one of the famous monuments in going to Baguio City, Philippines. The Lion's Head along the Kennon Road. Have you visited the summer capital of the Philippines? If not, try to visit and have an amazing experience in Baguio City.

Why is there a lion head in Baguio?

Based on the story of our van driver, at the same time our official tourist guide, it is a symbol for the lion's club of the city during the term of mayor Luis Lardizabal as the president of the said club. It was established during the late 1960s to 1972.

What does this lion's head mean in Baguio?

If we are going to talk about who is the king of the jungle, we consider the lion as the king. The lion symbolizes fierceness and strength. And this attraction could simply describe the city as a strong one, especially in terms of economy and richness of nature around the city. But this lion's head embodies the commitment of the lion's club to the city's welfare. It now becomes a welcoming landmark to the visitors who are coming to visit the city of pines via Kennon Road.

How tall is the lion's head?

It measures 40 ft tall, or 12 meters. A carved limestone boulder by Cordilleran artist Reynaldo Lopez Nanyac, which he began in the late 1960s. This monument was unveiled to the public in 1972. It is located 15 kilometers away from the city proper and is considered a majestic lion's head of the summer capital of the Philippines.

How did we get there?

We prepared everything early in the morning. We depart from the transient house located at the heart of the city at 6:00 o'clock in the morning since we'll be going to Manila after our Baguio City trip. Along our way, our van driver noticed the checkpoint by the Land Transportation Office. Since he knew that other van drivers can be apprehended due to a lack of documents, he contacted them, and only we have experienced and taken memorable poses in front of the lion's head.

Where did we meet our companions after our lion's head pose?

We met our companions at Leeza's restaurant in Sison, Pangasinan. We had our breakfast there and bought some snacks for our travel going to Manila. We arrived first at the restaurant and waited for the others, who took the Marcos Highway instead of Kennon Road. They arrived after 30 minutes with a disappointed reaction.

Our companions complained about their experience. They really wanted to have a picture on the lion's head. They did not know about the drivers' lack of documents. But despite what happened, we need to move on, and at least they were not apprehended, or else they need to take a bus going to Manila.

How's our experience?

It's worthy to experience and witness the beauty of the landmark. Though we did it the opposite way since we went to the place during our exit of the city. Many tourists had their photos of the remarkable monument, maybe to create memories and to recall the best moments with family and friends.

We go to Baguio almost every year, but we never took time to visit this Lion head, HAHAHA. I guess we will add this in our next destination!

Hopefully in your next visit you can take your best pose here. 😃 Just be careful because there are lots of speedy vehicles on the highway.
