RE: Meeting the American Dream for the First Time

in Worldmappin3 years ago (edited)

What an amazing story, @storiesoferne!
Although, you had a small moment of tension, your arrival in the US marked a milestone that you will remember all your life.
The tour of Michigan and the photos are spectacular. I sincerely hope that your friend, Mr. J is well and they can meet again.

Warm greetings @charsdesign. It's great to see you here. I never thought that an unexpected event like that at New York's JFK airport would happen to me. Yet, the worst scenario was the possibility of being deported back to my place of origin. Fortunately, aside from that minor problem, everything flowed smoothly during the rest of the journey. Truly glad that I had the needed guts to face the obstacles that almost crippled my American travel plans. Let's hope and pray that Mr. J is still alive and well, wherever he may be. Thank you so much for your wonderful remarks and appreciation! 😊

You were brave in facing that possibility. 911 was a day that is impossible to forget. In the case of NorthAmerican's and more specifically those of the Big Apple they have it on the surface and their paranoia is understandable.
It is also very difficult for Venezuelans to obtain a visa from that country. I remember that in 2011, my wife and I applied for a tourist visa. They gave it to me, but it was denied to her. Thanks to that, we had to change travel plans, but thank goodness we hadn't bought air tickets. 😀

Authentic courage, patience, and strength absolutely came in handy for me during those critical moments. Or else, the American immigration officials would have doubted me if I panicked and displayed suspicious behaviors in the airport. And the most challenging part of that trip was that I happened to arrive at the exact location where the horrific tragedy took place - in New York City. Thus, paranoia was simply rampant with the locals there as a way to safeguard themselves from further damage.

Perhaps, it was a blessing in disguise that your wife was not granted an American visa, even though you have been approved. At least you also saved on unnecessary expenses and spent time together traveling to other exotic destinations. Thanks a lot for sharing your interesting experiences. 😊
