Heaven with Sky juice

The world is in turmoil.

We all are tangled up in thoughts about the status quo, fear creeps up from time to time and the feeling of being stuck can be overwhelming.

That's why I wanna bring some color into todays day, combined with a few memories that shall not only ease my mind but hopefully those of many in da Hive.

A few years ago, during some deployments, me and my Ex-husband/still friend went on a trip to the Bahamas. It was a strange contrast to the war zone and the dark days as a military spouse. Surreal kinda but the good vibes and colorful locations had us forget for a little bit about the harsh realities.

Caribbean islands and their lifestyle are a romantic vision of many but it has a true core to it.

While life is difficult for many in the Caribbean, what they do share is a way to show that life doesn't always have to be complicated and that beauty lies in the simple things. At least that is what I wanna believe and I experienced it in the local food corner on New Providence island.

We went to the famous "Fish Fry" and stayed away from the tourist spaces as good as possible.

Wherever I go I try to stick with the locals, they often have the best places to share and you get the feeling of how life truly is where you are. Another benefit is that you often get the best food.

Caribbean vibes where not only spread by the sea breeze, palm trees and sunshine, but also with colors that I miss out in Europe.

A place can be run down but with a little bit of color it still feels better than a grey concrete space.

So the first stop at the Fish Fry was a Coconut stand in the last corner, run by a local for locals.

There I came in touch with the worlds best drink ever!!!!

"Sky juice"

What it is?

Well pretty much just fresh coconut water, a little bit of smashed up coconut meat and gin.

That's it.

It rockets you to the sky after having one or two. The beauty of the simple things and as tasteful as can be.

So we grabbed our Sky juice and made ourselves comfortable in a little corner of a place frequented by the locals.

I'm telling you, having a couple of those drinks you forget the world and irie vibes are entering your soul.

I sat there and just watched the locals, daydreaming.

I know that they face struggles and worries just like anyone else on this planet, but for a moment I thought rather worry under palm trees than in grey Germany, where I had to go to during the deployments.

Compared to the Caribbean Germany is a grey place and we could certainly use more color there.

It may sound foolish and I don't wanna downplay the problems the Caribbean faces, but let's just stick to the romantic idea for a minute and get our minds in a colorful, warm, irie mood.

While daydreaming and relaxing my food arrived and an explosion of simplicity yet the work of a genius awaited me.

A dish that combined with my Sky juice I could live on for quite a while. Well at least every other day.

"Conch salad"

What it is?

Well pretty much just tomatoes, onions, conch meat, green peppers and lime juice.

That's it. But it tastes like heaven when made with love and was my favorite dish to get by during my stay. Conch salad and Sky juice, the beauty of the simple things.

With the right atmosphere it shows us that it doesn't have to be a fancy-po-pancy over prized tourist place but a run down local food corner where you can taste love and irie vibes for a moment in time.

Soul food so to say.
