Small But Beautiful Digyo Island, Philippines

In the vast Visayan sea in the western part of Leyte nestled a small but beautiful island named Digyo Island, one belonging to the sleepy town of Inopacan, Leyte. "Digyo" in our dialect is a term that means small. The island is one of the "Four Scenic Islands of Leyte", popularly known as Cuatro Islas.

The island is an approximate 45-minute Banca ride from the shores of Inopacan. I was excited to visit this island since visiting this place has been my frustration. The island is near our town since Inopacan is an adjacent town to Hindang. This island is also a view every time I go to the seashore to watch the sunset. I would always wonder, what beauty awaits me on that island. When I was younger, my mom never let me visit this place since she was scared of the seas getting aggressive along the way to the island. She was so protective and it's kinda sad when you are a teenager and all you want to do is have the freedom to go out with friends. Oh, I somewhat forgot that this is a travel blog and not a community to rant. 😁

After almost an hour's ride, before landing on the island, you'll be welcomed by a long stretch of white sand or the island's sandbar. Who wouldn't get excited?

As soon as the boat touches the white sand beach, The excitement got stronger. The beautiful arrays of coconut trees and the white sand beach seemed like I had entered a whole new world, a dazzling place I had never known. 🤭

When I was on the island, under the shade of coconut trees, I was mesmerized by the beautiful view of the sea, sand, and sky. It was like a painting of a place in shades of blue, green ad white. What a masterpiece!

Everything was inviting. I was like a kid who wanted to play on the sand and swim in the clear blue sea. It was irresistible. So this was the beauty I was longing for. I was like having a " Frozen" moment and singing let it go, let it go under the scorching heat of the sun! 🤪

After we had our lunch, together with my friends, we decided to walk around the island. The island is small and there weren't any land structures that may be an obstacle to walking around the island.

First, we walk on the sand bar. It wasn't a very long sand bar, curved and the surrounding water was so clear and perfect for snorkeling.

We walk towards the back part of the island. We walked through rocky shores. Most parts of the shore were rocky.

We also found some interesting things around the island. There was driftwood I would love to take it home but it was too heavy. I was also able to take a photo of the weird-looking tree and what was unexpected, we found Mark, LOL.

After walking on rocky shores we found a wide-stretched beach and another sandbar which is shorter than the other sandbar. We were amazed and excited to see another beautiful part of the island and ran towards that part.

After walking around the island, we were finally back to the main beach part. The hot sun, the walking and running, and picture-taking drained half of our energy. I rested for a while on a hammock. But I got jealous of the hammock under a lush green tree that my friend took. It looks more relaxing and is perfect to take a short nap.

What not to expect on the island?

• Do not expect hotels or a luxurious place to stay if you want to stay overnight. They only have a nipa hut.

• Do not expect a restaurant or food house. You have to bring your food and water. There's no water on the island.

• There is a comfort room but don't expect a hotel like CR.
