RE: John Lennon Wall in Prague, Czech Republik

in Worldmappin2 years ago

Prague is a destination! I can tell from what you wrote that you loved it, and I loved what I saw in your photos. I was amazed by the river running through the houses, it looks like some kind of Venice! I saw how neat and clean the town is and I'm amazed that it's not crowded, I've read that there are a lot of tourists, but that's probably mostly in summer. I also noticed that there are some roofs with eyes, like in Sibiu!
John Lennon was my favorite singer and songwriter and I'm glad there is such a place where he is celebrated. One piece of information about the wall surprised me. I was surprised to learn that Beatles songs were banned in Czechoslovakia, where I understand there was a softer communism, while in Romania this did not happen (i.e. banning these songs). The only song with problems was Back In The U.S.S.R, after the Russian occupation of Czechoslovakia. They probably also refer to this song as the time after the Russian invasion in 1968.

Great presentation, I think I know more about Prague now and look forward to seeing more!

Prague can be a lot, talking about the type of destination. Everything you think of, its there. If you want quiet time and outdoors, there are a lot of parks. If you want history, there are dozens of historical places or buildings to visit. If you want to take a walk on the river, is just 13€ apart. If you want to enjoy a nice view and a drink, a coffee or whatever, there are beautiful terraces all over the city. If you want to eat local, there are some restaurants that serve mostly czech food recipes. And so on..the list continues.

Yes, I really loved Prague. It wasnt busy, but neither too "airy". It was exactly as you can imagine for being an european capital city in Central Europa.

I didnt know John Lennon music is your fav, now I do! I'm glad you liked my post, I hope I can share with you the other places I've visited here soon enough.

You have convinced me, of course, that it is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe and is accessible to us, the Romanians. I, when I was of your age, I was very much a cinephile, from about 16 to the age of 30 I can say I "ate movies on bread". That was in the years 1970-1985...when we had no resources to travel but we were not allowed to leave the country either. Movies were the only way to see places, cities, and ways of life in other countries. The cinema of Eastern European countries was an important and valuable cinema and the Czech (Czechoslovak) cinema was special. Jiri Menzel was one of the most important directors, he was also my favorite... What I mean. I have seen in films, behind the action, in the background, a lot of footage of cities, in this case, Prague. That made me want to visit this city, just like I wanted to visit London, Paris, or Rome, also because of the movies.
The funny thing is that after I came out of communism this desire to travel decreased. I got older, I had to work a lot, I got tired and I wanted to relax by the sea during my holidays.

I understand your pleasure in visiting such a city and I would certainly enjoy it too. I'm glad you can travel to such places, I'm glad you're going to write about it because I'll benefit from it too, thanks!
We need to access all the joys and beauties of life, as much as each of us can, of course!

You wrote it so beautiful!
Thanks for sharing this with me! Also thanks for your kind words. Appreciate all of your comment!

Btw, we are also cinephiles, but with movies from our times. Me and my husband have seen together I think....around 800-900 movies only in the cinema. Not to mention the ones at home, the old ones..
I have had (and still have) but I didnt continue with it, a collection of movies we saw together at cinema, starting since nov.2010 when we first started dating.
And by the time of 2016,2017 something like that we had around 600 tickets. I wonder what number would have been now...I know that in 2019 things got slower going to the cinema as we had our baby coming, but when the grannies took our baby boy, we go (went) straight to the movie. That is where we feel comfortable and relaxed.

So..once ..I loved to read what you wrote. I can only imagine how it was...that time for you.

I apologize for the so late response, @missdeli! I took a trip to the place where I grew up. I was lucky enough to grow up in the country, in the north of Moldova, in Falticeni. I had a beautiful childhood.

Impressive how many films you've seen. It's ideal to have shared passions with your life partner, in fact, that's where the good, enjoyable life comes from... happiness!

Something strange happened to me... Everything that's abundant now was just a dream in the past. Movies, theater, books, magazines, music, travel... Everything I used to get gave me immense pleasure but now I can only think it was all amplified by lack. After having freedom and access to so much my interest waned, I think also because of the internet which gave me information and easy access to everything I wanted.

In terms of film, I was self-taught. I saw so many films, of all genres, that taste and understanding came gradually. At first, I was drawn to the image of the film, I also liked photography, then I started to understand filmmaking, my favorite directors and films. I knew which films were valuable but I didn't know how to explain why.

I think you too have formed your eye with all the films you've seen, you recognize the value after the first images, after the first few minutes of watching. I'm so glad you're a cinephile, that your family is cinephiles... I know your son will be, just as my son has become.

Thank you for liking to read what I write, I have to say I like your writing too and I'm glad I can always read from your older posts.

That upvote was for Jiří Menzel, we love his films here ;)

Greetings from Prague!

I was fascinated by Closely Watched Trains, but it's been over 50 years since I've seen it. I don't really know much about films after 2000. Thanks so much for the support!

Closely Watched Trains is a classic, amazing film. I think our cinematography has been pretty good even after 2000, there have been quite a lot of aspiring young directors here who have made some interesting films :)

Sorry to reply so late, @phortun, I was away on a trip.
I know Czech cinema is good and I think I've seen a few more recent films and really need to find out more.

No problem :) Glad you like our films :)
