Sto parlando della manifestazione nata a Brescia negli anni post guerra, ossia la Mille miglia.
What is the Mille Miglia?
The mille miglia was born as an automobile competition in 1927 and held until 1957. The competitors had to leave and arrive in Brescia, pass through Rome and other cities in the center north. Every year the route was changed but the departure and passage to Rome remained unchanged.
The name derives from the kilometric length of the route, which despite changing each year, was always 1600 km long ( 1000 Roman miles ).
Initially it was a speed race, so those who competed had to finish first.
The demonstration was interrupted in 1957 due to a tragic accident that cost the lives of 11 people.
In 1977 it was decided to set up the event again but in the form of a regular race. Only historic cars produced by 1957 can participate, and must perform time tests at certain points of the journey.
This year the thousand miles was held from 11 to 15 June, as always the departure was from the city of Brescia, before arriving in Rome, the cars passed by Turin, Genoa, Viareggio, Lucca, Viterbo; they have traveled the whole western part of our peninsula, in some stretches also coasting the sea. Once arrived in Rome they then went up from the eastern part passing through Orvieto, Siena, Prato, Bologna, Ferrara, Lake Garda, Salò and Brescia.
With my brothers, with whom I go every year to see the thousand miles, this year we decided to see her in Salò, the last stage of the time trial.
We left very early in the morning, the arrival of the cars was expected around 11:00. Before the arrival of vintage cars, there was the parade of Ferrari brand supercars.
Many people stop and wait for the arrival of the cars, I must say that this year, maybe even the location, there were many foreigners, mostly Germans; This is because they are on holiday at Lake Garda and probably know of the event have decided to participate.
Obviously it is totally free, and will be distributed free of charge with flags signed thousand miles.
I must say that every year becomes more and more exciting, and the presence of all these people to see a historical event, is always very pleasant.
Have you ever seen the Thousand Miles?
