A beautiful pagoda on top of the hill!

in Worldmappin2 years ago

Hello everyone

The last time I came to make merit at Wat Doi Thep Nimit was on Buddhist Lent Day, about 10 years ago. The journey to reach the temple was difficult. Rough roads are dangerous for those who drive. At that time, this temple was only a small monastery with only a small building. Only one house for religious practice. After 10 years, I returned to make merit again and everything has changed a lot. New concrete roads are being built for an easier commute. But still have to drive with caution because it is a steep slope up to a high mountain on the right side is a mountain. On the left-hand side is a deep abyss full of trees.

But now a lot has changed from before. The road to the temple was renovated and the road was slightly expanded. This made the journey not as difficult as before. Around 2 pm, I drove straight to Wat Doi Thep Nimit along a winding and steep path. Which route I don't take often I feel that the distance is far. About 15 minutes, I drive to the entrance on a hilly day. Looking downwards, you will see a white pagoda towering over gold. Behind is a view of Patong, very beautiful.

This is a temple on top of a hill surrounded by mountains and greenery. Therefore, it is a peaceful and shady temple suitable for dharma practice. There are many nuns here who come to practice the Dharma. In the afternoon, you can see them sweeping the temple grounds and roads daily.

I parked my car under the shade of a large tree because it is a very hot day. Under the root of the Bodhi tree is a statue of the Wheel of the Law. Which is considered a symbol of Buddhism which means the rotation of dharma and the propagation of religion.

Next to the big Bodhi tree is a small pavilion that enshrines the Buddha image of Luang Por Ong Dam which is all black. And there are Buddha images in various postures.

After paying respect to Luang Pho Ong Dam I walked straight to the white pagoda towering on the hill. It was a very bright day despite it raining cats and dogs in the morning.

When walking up to the top is the entrance to the pagoda. There are two giant statues with a large green and blue king of nagas. The two kings of nagas wrapped themselves around the pagoda to protect it from evil.

On the right-hand side is a blue serpent with 7 heads stretching towards the back. There is a crystal ball inside the mouth. Under the belly were many giants carrying the serpent.

On the left-hand side is a green serpent with 7 heads as well stretching towards the back. There is a crystal ball inside the mouth. Under the belly were many giants carrying the serpent.

Around 2.30 p.m., it's the time when the sun is right in the middle of the top of the pagoda. There was a shadow of the sun over the top of the pagoda. The clear sky resulted in a beautiful pagoda.

This beautiful pagoda is modeled after Phra That Phanom of Nakhon Phanom Province the patterns are very similar.

At the base of the pagoda on all 4 sides, there are statues of deities protecting the pagoda.

The stairway leading up to the serpent pagoda extends like a railing on both sides.

Inside the pagoda enshrines a large black Buddha image in the middle.

After paying respect to the Buddha image enshrined inside the chedi and making merit. I walked outside to admire the beauty of the view behind the pagoda. In the middle is the tail of the two kings of nagas that are intertwined. Which, when exposed to sunlight, creates a very beautiful luster.

At the back of the pagoda is a wide courtyard. At this point, you can see the mountain view that is full of greenery. The wind blows all the time, so the weather is not very hot.

This point is under the belly of the King of Nagas which looks like a curve. You can see the view of Patong. Fortunately, with good weather, the buildings, hotels, and Patong beach can be seen.

This is the bell tower and gongs for the monks' timing.

Walking down to the bottom is a pavilion for practicing dharma. There are no paintings about the Buddha's history like in other temples here.

Next to the religious pavilion is a road that leads down below. It is filled with lush greenery that creates a very shady atmosphere for this temple.

Along the road leading down below is the monk's cubicle planted among the trees. The atmosphere is quite, suitable for meditation.

This section is for the nuns a small house without facilities.
