Lake Louise and Moraine Lake, Canada

Lake Louise

Over last summer I took the family to visit Banff National Park. In fact we were there to attend the graduation of my nephew who was finishing the master's program from University of Alberta, Edmonton, in computer science. Now he is doing a PhD there, and so we contunue to visit when we can. After the graduation party, we thought we better take the opportunity to visit the Banff National Park that is nearby. We have visited both Banff and Jasper National Park earlier, but didn't get to spend enough time around Lake Louise.

Lake Louise is a very popular destination, and to top it off, there are not enough places to stay nearby. Even the nearby town of Banff, which is about 40 to the south of the little town of Lake Louise, doesn't have that many places to stay compared to demand. Therefore, the prices of vacation rentals and hotels are incredibly high over there compared to similar places in North America. So last time around we stayed at a vacation rental in Canmore, which is another 20 min away. That makes the 'commute' a bit much and parking stressful. If there are a lot of tourists at Lake Louise, which I seem to think 'always', parking is a big problem. Just near the lake, there is a small parking lot (I don't know, may be 100-200 cars), which is almost always full. When it is full, you must park at the ski area, across the freeway, and take a bus. All these adds a lot of logistics, and I thought, to hell with it! This time around I will stay at Lake Louise town itself! So we stayed at Lake Louise Inn.

It is a nice functional no-frill place with a indoor pool and a nice lobby. I liked the lobby a lot and spend a lot of time there, especially when it was raining and snowing. Rest of the time we mostly stayed outside around the Lake Louise.

There is a flat and easy trail that goes around Lake Louise. The trail is very nice in the evening, when most of the day tripper have already left.

On the far side of the lake, there is a inlet stream that comes into the lake. My kids spent a lot of time there balacing on the logs and playing with the water.

Also when you go to the far side of the lake and look back, the famous Fairmont Château Lake Louise hotel dominates the horizon.

Moraine Lake

During summer the 15 km narrow road from Lake Louise to Moraine Lake is only accessible by shuttle buses. That requires booking so more logistics. However, I am not complaining. When you do all that it probably one of the most beautiful places I have been. It was snowing when we got there so visibility was challenging, but kids still loved it.

It is a fairly wild place and I think the last picture shows it. Although this is a very well travelled place, but just a bit of bad weather takes most of the tourists away, and the place returns to its original beauty.

Happy Travels!

It looks so beautiful out there, I absolutely love places like, though I have never been or experienced anything like that myself.

But this is why Canada is on the top of my travelling list right now.

One of my husband's favorite places in all the world, Lake Louis. He couldn't believe the color of the lake. You capture it so perfectly. With your pictures, it's like being there again--although when we went it was summer. The kids look so happy :)

We had gone to Calgary because he'd entered an international pool competition--I don't know if it was nine-ball, eight-ball, or straight pool. I think he's better at nine-ball and straight pool. Anyway whenever we went to one of the competitions (all over Canada and the U.S.) we'd take the opportunity to tour. I remember most clearly Lake Louis and the Badlands in Alberta.

Did you go to the Badlands? Unforgettable.

Yeah been to badlands as a student. Not anytime recently. Got to take kids there.

We love that area, but next time we got to try less popular places or be there completely off season like now for example

This definitely looks like a beautiful area. I'm not a fan of doing the shuttle bus thing either. It's pretty crazy how full some of these places get. As annoying as it is, that's kind of why I like the timed pass thing in the US national parks. As long as you plan ahead!

Yeah. That place is quite logistically challenging. Not to mention very expensive. We say Hawaii is expensive… go here and find out!

My wife and I vwere just talking about checking out Banff as our big vacation next year. Those photos are stunning. We have heard it has gotten so expensive to stay there

The place is obviously gorgeous and overpriced. Recommend visiting shoulder season

What a beautiful place! That water looks unreal!
Never been to that part of Canada, only to the coasts. Quite a few times in British Columbia as it is close to us and once in Montreal as that is where I went for training that a consulting company sent me to after college.

Yeah it's a bit of a drive from coastal BC but it's beautiful when you get there

I'm a big fan of bad weather - or at least not perfect weather - camping or travelling. As long as it's not crowded I'm happy. Absolutely stunning place. The water looks freezing.

We didn't do any lake camping this time round in Tassie but I was absolutely gutted to find out that one of our favourite lakes was closed because some idiot had stored a heap of old oil in a drum which leaked into a creek and then fed into the lake. Honestly is there no end to people's idiocy?

This was early summer and you can see snow on the ground. It snowed while we were there too. Water is indeed freezing but my nine year old doesn’t care. See her pants? It’s all wet :) boots were all soaking wet ;)

I'd jump in with her haha!

Moraine and Louise lakes look quite impressive. Since these places are far from the city center, the cost of vacations and trips increases.

Moraine lake probably has bears. There is a similar lake in the city I live in and there are many bears. However, they are not very aggressive.

They are in fact not that far from the city. They are about 2 hrs from Calgary

AZ that is absolutely STUNNNIG!

Not to mention your photography is on point, as usual :)

Thank you for the peek into your life, through your lens!

Yeah, we travel a lot. Both for business and as a family

Wow, that's such beautiful scenery! It looks magical. The water looks crystal clear and pretty calm, too, like it would be a great place for kayaking or canoeing... like in the first photo. :)

Yes lots of people do kayaking there

The photos are just awesome concluding a memorable vacation in a grand place. Picture perfect. I love them all!!!😍

Wow. It's a great place to spend some time. Tranquility over the place creates a wonderful moment with our love ones. Thank you @azircon for sharing this nature's beauty.

The scenery there looks stunning - I hope to go to Alberta one day.

Wooow,looks beautiful and amazing ❤️❤️

What a beautiful place, I imagine that room smells like wood, very nice pine

It's wonderful to see such places. Hope humans would not mess with them, tourists as you said seem to alter the natural beauties they behold. From the looks of them, I believe you had a great time with the family. All the best !BBH

Since this area is within a national park, it is well taken care of

What beautiful landscapes you have captured with your camera! What I can imagine is how cold it must be in those lands. I am from the Caribbean, I don't know if I could bear to live in such cold weather, but I would like to visit it sometime. Thank you for sharing this content with us. Best regards.

Ohhh

This looks like a lot of fun...

The lobby gives of that calm, warm, wooden cabin vibes😂😂🔥✨

You capture the lake very well, the water is so clear...

Very impressive lakes! The beauty it radiates accompanied by the greeneries that surround the place is magical. Sitting on the side of the lake gives you the relaxing moment and peace. Greetings!
