Grand Canyon Mish-Mash!

Grand Canyon Mish-Mash!

What can I say, I love the Grand Canyon! I have been there many times. Actually, I just counted, in the last 22 years, I have not been there in a calendar year only 3 times, 3 years I have missed (yeah I have been there on both Covid Years!). Some years I have been there multiple times. I have seen the canyon in every season, during every time of the day and the night. However, I still feel like that I haven't seen anything about the canyon! I haven't even walked 10% of the trails. Majority of my trips are at the South Rim. I feel like the North Rim remained completely unexplored to me. It is still so inaccessible! Basically only open 4-5 months of the year for all practical purposes! Sigh! That will be again someday (yeah I have been to North Rim too quite a few times, but not as much as I like to), some other trip to the North Rim. Okay, only the South Rim this time.

The point is, as per as my thought process, I can never have enough Grand Canyon. It remains my most visited national park (may not be my favorite! Take That!!), and probably will be for a few long time. I think I have been to the Grand Canyon National Park about 25 times (sorry, I have lost count, and I am not organized regarding my photographs), the close second is probably the Rocky Mountain National Park with numbers around 12 or so. So as you can understand, it will take a long time to catch up, may be during the retirement.

Why

That's not a difficult question. I have been a student of geology for for nearly three decades. If you study geosciences, the Grand Canyon is a national laboratory, where you can actually see the history of the planet earth and colorado plateau, from 3 Billion years back to about 250 Million years, and then tectonic episodes all the way to the present day. You can observe the history of a great river (The mighty Colorado), and see how it shaped the land and the people along with it. Although people were mostly absent much of its history, but when they were present, they left some very distinct marks.

Also the Grand Canyong was relatively close to me, throughout my time in the United States. It is also accessible thoughout the year, at least the south rim, a big plus, which is not the case for most of the national parks in the north during winter.

So I walked to this Yavapai Geology Museum building numeous times. Walked every inch of the the trail of geology many times, alone, with my whole family, with individual kids, with my wife. I have done all possible combinations and it never gets old.

And at the end of the day, I can always sit by a fire, which I will make every evening, and relax and cook dinner. Watch my kids grow up in the Mather Campground is probably going to be one of my fondest memories of my life.

Sort:

This took me back. Visited here and stayed for a week back in 1992. 100% understand why you can’t get enough as I was blown away. It doesn’t disappoint. One day I must return

As they say in the canyon country... she got me

Yup absolutely. We went up to Bryce and Zion afterwards on that trip also. All absolutely amazing but at the Grand Canyon when we first arrived it blew my mind. I remember staring at a plateau in the distance and thinking the vegetation on it was grass or something and then My brain processed that it was trees and the sheer mind boggling scale of it came into focus. You don't get those 'whoaaaa' moments in life too often.

And you know what is said about Bryce? A terrible place to lose your cow ;)

I can see why. Zion was pretty cool though. Can imagine filming Sci Fi movies there.

Grand Canyon is on my bucket list! Great photos.

And I love to stay in Vancouver for an extended period

Sounds like you venture around a lot too! Thats awesome.

I'd love that, my life is such a hell sometimes.

yeah, we are all doing something, some of it we like some of it we don't!

Is that true for every human, misery likes company

-How blue is very blue?
-To see, you'll just have to look beyond the horizon

I wish my boots too get to be in such cool pictures someday:P

You know I like to take pictures like that ;)

Yes sir yes i do.

Making a tradition out of it, I see!

Watch my kids grow up in the Mather Campground is probably going to be one of my fondest memories of my life.

— This sounds like a wonderful memory to keep dada.

yeah, Sam, princess buttercup wanted to see some desert pictures, so here is some desert pictures

I use to go to the grand canyon a lot but got bored of it. Always stayed away from the edge incase i got dizzy

Would love to visit the Grant Canyon.
I see a lot of pictures from people who went there and it looks absolutely beautiful.

The Grand Canyon looks beautiful, i can see why you go there every year. I've never been but I think I will put it on my list of places to see when I move back to Canada. I've noticed that people always show photos of the canyon from an overhead view and rarely from inside the canyon. I assume that hiking inside is possible but is it easy to access hiking spots at the bottom - like to hike through parts of the canyon?

It's such an awesome place! Last time we went (South Rim) we had snow, rain, cloud and warm sun all within the space of a few hours. Oh, and that was in May, a few years back (pre-Covid).

We used to have a place in Sedona, so we went pretty often. Don't have that anymore, so it has been a while...

Great photos; bring back good memories.

Yeah, Sedona is a nice town to keep a property at. Gotten very expensive lately, likely you took the advantage of the price rise.

Thanks for sharing this personal story. I have been to each rim twice, once for sunrise and once for sunset. When it comes to canyons though, I thought that Bryce Canyon in Utah was more accessible and more impressive, despite the smaller size and lack of running water.

The only times I've heard of the Grand Canyon has been thanks to mentions in movies, lol.

The pictures are amazing, it looks like a spectacular place. I hope to go to the US at some point in my life.

I dream to visit the Grand canyon. Magnificent creation!

Wow! What an awesome place to visit. It boggles the mind that there is still so much of it you have yet to explore. I've only ever seen it in films, which I'm sure don't do it justice.

Thanks for posting, @azircon!
