Los Cabos
I usually like to spend Christmas away from home. This is rather interesting to most people, especially those who celebrate christmas, and we do. So at home, we decorate Christmas tree (kids do), and there are shocks by the fireplace, and we do modest Christmas lights both inside and outside. However, after doing all that, we promptly leave home :) This brings a potential problem with kids during every Christmas vacation. Where will the Christmas tree be at our vacation home/hotel/condo, whereever we are staying. I will discuss that in this post.
Above is one of the most popular destimation in Los Cabos, in Mexico's Baja California Sur state, it is the Lovers Beach, at the southernmost tip of the Baja Peninsula. The only way to get to this beach is to take a small boat as although it is connected to the land, but it is cliffed out in almost all direction. But ferry boats are easy to get though and only a few dollars and a 15 min boatride from the Los Cabos Marina.
Trip
That was no very organized, and it is unlikely rest of the post will be anyways. So basically mostly people have to fly to the San Jose del Cabo (SJD) airport to get to this part of Baja California. SJD is well connected to most of the major hubs in the US and Mexico.
SJD Airport is just south of where the Map above says Santa Anta, right at the intersection of Highway 1 and 1D (which is just a toll road connecting SJD to Los Cabos). The town of San Jose del Cabo is about 20 KM to the south of the airport. It has a nice central plaza and cobblestone streets with excellent local Mexico feel around it.
I stayed further south, about half way down to Los Cabos proper at the Dreams Resort. It was nothing much to talk about and I probably won't stay there again. But it is not because it was bad or anything. It was very comfortable and we got there using a vacation exchange program, so it was inexpensive, but the point is that I have been to the general area many times, and there are many other better options available.
This is the typical set up of the place, basically a series of condos. But it was right on the beach!
Basic set up, but comfortable and has everything for a relaxing time. Sand is quite coarse and mostly kids and I played in the sand and hang around. Days were 70-80 degrees F and the nights were in the 50s. Perfect weather if you ask me.
I didn't do much, mostly just hang out, read books, and did a bit of fishing. But that is a different story some other time!
Just yesterday something was on TV about the Baja and Humboldt squids. Dang, no kidding with those suckers. Btw, toes in the sand for Xmas? Take it :).
That is one cool video!
Fascinating squids ;) I might never tip a toe in waters anymore lol. Have a g'day!
Glad you’re able to relax, the place looks fantastic, there is something about the warm weather and sand the makes us all feel better.
Yeah and relatively easy to get to and no Covid related travel restrictions which was very welcoming.
Looks funkin marvelous! Beats my rain and cold at least!
To rub it in. The fishing was fabulous. I got to write that up properly.
Haha, that is running it in. The only bonus for me is that if I catch a fish it would already be frozen :0D
No, :) My highschool Physics book said, maximum density of water is at 4 degrees C :)
Fish will be just fine.... there is a thing called Ice Fishing!
You are there, while I am shovelling 20 cm of snowfall... :D
Looks idyllic!
Taraz, I will take sand over snow any day of the week and twice many times during Christmass :)
The cold that you guys deal with during this time of the year is simply scary I must say!
At the moment, so would I! Perhaps next year we can travel.
I'v always want to do a diving trip to that part of the world. Nice to read about your travels there - thanks for sharing.
I didn't do a diving, not even snorkeling... but this is surface of the water at a particular area...
This is not any aquarium, or made up... just a picture from my phone camera
Nice vacation, next one in Cuba 😃
I would love Cuba!! My wife went to school in Miami. I feel like I am half way there already :)
Jaja well if you ever come enjoy, Cuba is a paradise
I have never spent Christmas somewhere warm; love my cozy, cold festivities, but come December 26th, you wouldn't have to ask me twice.
Looks like a nice way to enjoy the Christmas holiday. Nice and relaxing. Can't go wrong with sunshine, a nice beach and a good book.
Whaat, reading books on a beach? That's pretty peculiar haha.
I come from an island called Margarita (Venezuela). The beaches are beautiful and the sun is pretty cool, but when you live all your life surrounded by this kind of places you start to dislike them.
Low temperatures are the best :P
