Christmas does not only happen in the most visited or touristic places but also in the neighbourhoods, inner streets and other usual walking areas. Christmas spreads to every corner of the city in an amazing way.
Most people and especially tourists focus on the light shows that take place in the city centre area, such as the famous Calle Larios or Alameda, where, as I have already brought you here, the lights impress and amaze the eye.
They are beautiful spectacles that leave anyone's mouth open, and if we add to that the music and the festivities, even more so.
But in reality, every corner of the city of Malaga is dressed up for the festive season and that is what I wanted to show you today. Christmas in a little known, or little travelled, street, because there are more than 500 streets that have been illuminated in a very special way. And it doesn't matter that there are no lights, people carry that Christmas light wherever they go. The joy spreads.
My tour starts by taking pictures of decorations on buildings or houses where people transmit that joy to the outside and want to bring the Christmas night and the Christmas nights to life. There are many such decorations, some more elaborate, others less so, but they are always present.
If I am approaching the historic centre, which by the way is enormous, I try to go through streets that are not very crowded and so I see decorations like these, each street decorated differently, except for those that are closer to the main street Calle Larios. There they have put up something new around it, which I loved.
But as I said, walking through these streets, I could see how people were working on Christmas, because these pictures were taken yesterday, to prepare the Reyes event and I could see how they were transporting this beautiful sculpture.
The streets are dressed with lights that fall like rain generating a very nice atmosphere, every step I took was to admire it all.
Like me, the people were enjoying the calm and peaceful atmosphere, with the wonderful decorations, and this is what Christmas Day is like here.
My aim was to walk through the ordinary streets where every day people walk to work, to go for a stroll or to commute. Of course, at some point I had to pass through the city centre and there I came across a spectacle in the Plaza ConstituciΓ³n.
Celebrations everywhere I walked, lights, characters, children enjoying Christmas with their parents and other family members. People enjoying the music and the joy of this day.
I wandered through the inner streets and as I mentioned they were decorated with what appeared to be illuminated representations of ornaments that we all put on Christmas trees and also boxes of presents and much more.
Every now and then, I would cross a street that gave me a glimpse of the main street and its angels.
But again I would pick up the road and those decorations seemed to me as if the city was a huge Christmas tree and I was small and I was or lived inside the tree. I don't know if I understand. It was magical. I consider it an artistic and magical city.
In some squares I could see the beautifully lit restaurants and even the natural trees with beautiful lights.
I was inundated with ornaments and gift boxes and I think that since I have been here it is the most sober, simple but beautiful decoration I have ever experienced.
Walking a little further and crossing main avenues I arrive at this beautiful building that announces to me that I am already in the port and that soon the most famous promenade, pier one, will begin.
The scenery changes radically, the lights are no longer yellow and become white and all along the way I see lights, lights, lights and more lights. In the distance I can already see how the area of the shops and restaurants that are close to the lamppost gleams.
As I approached each palm tree had been dressed in such a delicate way as if it was wearing a tight and beautiful dress, they parade on this beautiful promenade.
The shops, every place, the restaurants and every corner had something special as you can see.
And now being on the opposite side I could see the city illuminating everything, it sparkles.
The boats as always give it that romantic touch, well it seems so to me.
Until I discover a pirate ship, many times there is one in the city where you can go for a ride, not only to go up there, but you can go for a ride on the Mediterranean Sea with it and for a moment you can dream of being a pirate.
In front of me I have the big promenade full of places to eat, shops and much more and already from far away it looks fabulous.
But always on my walks I find something very special and in this case it is this decoration, specially arranged for people to take pictures in it, in front of what was the first chapel of the port, a dream place. The town hall always makes this place very special and I love it.
I walk a little further and I see a special place for children, a chocolate area where giant polar bears are waiting for the children to enter a little house that is an upside down cup. I love all this, I repeat, there is always magic.
I continue on my way and climb the stairs to admire the view.
This special place on this special date is very important to me. It brings back many memories of my aunt and uncle. Today my aunt is gone. And this post is dedicated to her.
In this place they told me that they wanted to live here. It couldn't be, but it was precisely in this place where they fell in love with the city.
The street lamp always accompanies the whole area with its majestic presence.
This is how Christmas was lived in these places on Christmas Day and I wanted to be present and feel what they had for me and now I share it with all of you.
Thank you all for watching and reading this far, I wish you a very Merry Christmas. See you soon.
