The "salu paliya" dance surprised me on the wedding day.
This "salu paliya" is a dance form that is unique to Sri Lanka. This dance is traditional and Hereditary in our country from the past. Here a person dressed as a demon appears with a white silk shawl.
A drummer also participates in this cultural dance and his drum is called magul beraya/ yak beraya in our country from the past. And this musical instrument is an ancient instrument with past art and traditional value. This is known as an entertainment and peaceful dance.
The "Salu Paliya" dance won everyone's hearts
I am now going to tell about how we had fun with this traditional dance on my wedding day. Along with a man playing traditional drums and singing poetry, another man wearing a demon mask with a white shawl around his neck walked into our midst, drawing everyone's attention. Beating drums and chanting Shanti Karma poems, the man in the demon costume cracked jokes and made everyone in the crowd laugh out loud, even the married couple..
The importance of that "salu paliya" dance.
The importance of this traditional Shanti Karma dance is that it brings beauty and the blessings of Lord Pattini are believed by the people of my country. According to ancient tradition, the gara demon brings the blessings of Goddess Pattini with a white shawl. This beautiful dance and incident left the wedding hall with a lot of interesting memories and gave us all an unforgettable experience.
*I would like to know about such traditional things in other countries and I request others here to post them.
