Hello dear friends and Hivers, today I'm presenting a hike that my brother and I did in the Ardèche a few months ago. It's one of the regions we come from through our grandparents, and I know it quite well... well, not as well as my brother, who lives there !
Here, everything is in relief - it's quite simple, we're on volcanic soil, at altitude, where one valley follows another, all carved out by erosion, and at the bottom of them, there are numerous rivers.
Another special feature of these foothills is that the forests are everywhere ! There are plenty of beech and oak trees, but the most representative tree of the region is of course the chestnut, from which the delicious chestnut cream is made !
The first plant encounters on our trip were a Viperina followed by a small Centaurea flower...
At the start, the road is still just driveable... but that won't be the case afterwards !
Have you spotted it ?
A magnificent blue-throated lizard ! Unfortunately, I don't know enough about reptiles to be able to tell you what species it is !
The route continues, alternating between open and wooded terrain...
That's where we're heading, to the bottom of the valley...! If you wanted to get an idea of what I look like, from the back at least, we're very similar with my brother ^^ !
On our excursion, we're accompanied by Nina, the neighbor's dynamic dog, who never misses an opportunity to get out for a walk !
As we move forward, the landscapes of valleys and mountains change as we go...
Last year's chestnuts that weren't picked...
A short path on the hillside lined with low dry-stone walls.
A thousand and one things punctuate our exploration, like this felled tree whose skeleton still stands up to the rains and winters. Or this Montpellier Maple.
At the foot of another mossy tree, we found dozens of beehive fragments... These are the largest fragments available, and they still smell of beeswax !
A succession of valleys, passes and views over the rest of the mountainous horizon.
We're making progress on ever-changing terrain...
Here, some Gentian, a plant from which a number of delicious alcohols are made !
Around a bend in the road, low walls appear, just like those that can be found in many mountainous regions around the world. Or how to create cultivated areas in steeply sloping terrain.
Not far from here are the famous Roman steps. These were built by the Roman legions on their way to northern Gaul two thousand years ago. If you're not careful, you could almost walk over them without noticing !
Above us, a vertical cliff and opposite us, on the promontory, the relief of the valleys that criss-cross to the mountain opposite... A moment's rest to catch our breath !
As for Nina, she covered twice the distance. In fact, she spent the whole trip running ahead, finding water to swim in and then coming back to pick us up...
Strangely shaped rock...
We took advantage of our break to try out different sepia modes...
A little mountain Sedum... Again, don't ask me its name ^^ !
Tree pierced on the way down...
And so the walk ends a little further down the road ! I hope you've enjoyed and benefited from this escape into nature. I'd like to thank you for your visit and wish you an excellent Sunday,
<3

<3

What an amazing and versatile landscape! 😍 Pure beauty that only mother nature can form.
Thank you so much for taking us with you on this tour.
And give Nina some cuddles and petting from me the next time you see her. As she's a beauty of her own and deserves some attention. 😉
Have an extraordinary week and take care!
I won't miss it !
I'm always amazed by human achievements, but I don't think it's ever quite the same as what I feel when I'm faced with Nature's wild and free splendor !
Many many thank for your kind inputs dear @aaskablackwolf 😇
Take really good care and I hope you're fine during this Christmas time !

What an awesome place! It looks so wild and so many plants that are useful as well.
Yeah !! It's very wild, as some others regions in France, it has it's industrial time just at the beginning and now it's over since a loonng time ! Nature won :)
Oh and the lizard!!!!! I had no idea you had them there, but there's no reason why you wouldn't. Just seems incongruous!
Yeah, it's quite rare to see some bigs like this one, most are little ones, but I bet you must have giant specimens 😅
Have a lovely day dear 😘
I never realised France sits on volcano terrain, guess that's why you get so much interesting wildlife and landscape there.
Well done to Nina, running up and down and accompanying you guys!!
Yeah, in fact there is a lot of the territory who have a volcanic past... Almost all the areas where there is no limestone, those parts were oceans long time ago :)
I was indeed really impressed by her energy and stamina !
Have a nice day dear @livinguktaiwan 😘

Hey @ybanezkim26 ! I thank you very much and I hope you're doing well !
Take care and have a lovely day ✌️
Hello !
This place looks beautiful, it's filled with nature. And that's why it's a perfect place for hiking. Hiking and viewing nature gives you a sense of refreshment in the spirit.
The feeling of freedom can only come from visiting such amazing places, yes I love hiking and discovering places that not many people have been to.
Have a wonderful Sunday.
So I think we share the same feelings about going out and feel free !
A late thank you dear @triplug, I hope you're doing well ✌️
You're welcome😉
✌️
Such a wonderful place, the mountain and the hike you did with your brother are beautiful. The blue-throated lizard is so interesting, I didn't stop it at first, just when it was zoomed in. The forest looks like an enchanted one, especially after seeing this tree
It is a face, with eyes and a bit scary mouth with teeth :D
Yeah, I made myself the same reflection about that tree when we cross its way ! It's both reassuring and frightening at the same time 😅
Thank you @mipiano, I wish you a nice day ahead 😘
That purple flower looks amazing 🤩
All pictures are mind blowing... enjoying this hike pictures :-)
