If, like me, you loved this mythical series by David Lynch, I imagine that you will appreciate this little escapade in the Ardèche, a visit in the direction of an incredible volcanic site and waterfalls that have been created by time and erosion !
We are really in these deep valleys, of forests growing on steep slopes and torrents flowing that have created this environment in which it is so pleasant and easy to get lost !
A view of this bridge where we stop, because the rest of the route is on foot, at least if you want to appreciate these landscapes.
Some more views from this bridge, which is quite high and offers a good view over the valley... We are lucky, it has just rained for the first half of the day so we are quiet for our walk.
One last look at the other bridge that leads to an adjacent valley and then we are on our way !
The slope is a bit steep through this beech forest, and then the leaves have already almost all fallen... I thought there would be more left, but the light is already very beautiful and the leafy carpet is enough to replace what I thought !
Arrival at the entrance to the waterfalls site itself. You can also get there by car, but it's much nicer to do as much as possible on foot :)
We enter the classified site and inevitably (and to my great delight !) we find the information panels that tell us a little more about the history of the place. Even if it's obviously written in French, I think that the pictures and diagrams will speak for themselves if you enlarge the pictures on your screen !
It's quite telling, isn't it ? You can see quite clearly how the topology of the site was formed as a result of the eruption of the volcano millions of years ago. The crater, whose volumes you can appreciate (especially on the following images), was 20 kilometers at its maximum.
The route from the entrance is very well signposted, you follow small paths, flights of steps, but it's not very well laid out overall. Just enough to make you feel like you are in a natural site and that it is pleasant to go there !
A short break to admire the view, just above the first lookout...
The closer you get to the site, the more you find these large beech trees whose trunks are engraved by the thousands of inscriptions left by visitors.
And at the bend of one of these trees, after the descent to a wooden platform, we discover the main waterfall...
The site is really superb with this torrent of water gushing out from between the basaltic organs, these geological formations due to a particular cooling of the lava, as in Ireland at the "Giant's Causeway".
Well, I made some gifs, but you'll probably find better videos. These are of average quality, but it was hard to put something heavier in my article...
No, what is difficult to realize is the scale of these stunts which are more than 60 meters high !
But we decide to take a path with blue basalt steps to get as close as possible to the waterfall...
It is truly an amazing place of majesty and several times I felt like I was taken back thousands of years... I was ready to see a woolly rhinoceros coming out from behind a bush ^^ !
The second fall is less important in terms of flow, but just as beautiful and interesting in its own way! Here again, I tried a gif, but I'm sure you'll find a better video :)
But now it's time to go back, the daylight hours are less and the night falls quickly. We came back to our starting point by the same path and I must say that even if I generally made a loop, it was really good to see these landscapes in the other direction !
I hope you enjoyed this walk with me :)
I wish you a good evening, a beautiful week to come and thank you for your time !

Loved this walk!!! Makes me want to go waterfall searching myself. There's tons near me.
Volcanos in France! Cool. There's a whole ring near us too but you'd never know. When I told someone last week they were gobsmacked.
They are only 10,000 years young too
I watched the entire series of Twin Peaks on VHS in early 2001 before I left for a years travel in Europe backpacking with my 4 yo. I had just come out of a long term relationship. I recall it well. But I can't watch Lynch anymore.
Oh yeah ! A waterfalls quest !
God, that's super young "geologycaly" speaking ! They must be pretty active, don't they ?
Aaah, you were among the first :) I can imagine how full and eventful such a travel in Europe must have been..! Can I ask you why you can't still watch Lynch movies ?
They aren't active now, and just look like hills!
Hmmm, I think it was Mulholland Drive and another one that I just went, hmmm, wtf is he on about, I'm done! Twin Peaks was perfect. The rest just got wierd and I felt I was watching it because it was Lynch, not because I enjoyed them, so I took a stand. I did the same with Tarantino and just downright refuse to watch him at all.
I hope these won't wake up too quickly for you ^^
I totally know what you're talking about, I kinda like this weird and hermetic side... even if it can be boring or just for show in some cases ! I have more of that with Tarantino, even if he is, let's say, more readable...
I LIKED it, I just was fed up with it. Like he needed to do something different or something. Same with Tarantino - I was like, enough with the gratuitious violence already...
I know exactly what you mean. There are many artists who find a formula and repeat it endlessly... Afterwards, it's also complicated I guess to find yourself a bit stuck between the expectations of the public (and producers...) and your personal and artistic aspirations. But it doesn't change anything to the fact ^^
Yes, absolutely - it is better to stay true to your vision than please everyone. You know I miss the days of art house films. It was easier to find them as there would be a whole section in the DVD/video shop! Now you have to hunt harder for them unless they have bigger marketing budgets to sell to mainstream. Gah, I hate this attention culture and how the internet has been utterly taken over by consumerism and capitalism!!!
Wow this is beautiful @anttn.
I loved Twin Peaks back in the day, it terrified me, but I was hooked.
Such stunning landscape, thank you for sharing it with us xxx
I pretty had the same reactions and interest about this series :)
Choose between the white or black lodge ^^
Crazy place indeed... like suggested by Riverflows, we must create a quest for waterfalls !
I hope you're well 🤞 glad you enjoyed this tour 😘
Wow - the falls and the rock formations around them are just stunning. And I recognised a pic of Staffa in Scotland on the info board which was close to where I used to live !
!LUV
Ahh nice :)
I was quite sure someone would recognize a place, you're the chosen one haha !
Would love to travel in Scotland somedays..! Must be beautiful.
Have a good evening and take care ✌️

Bonne semaine ✌️
Well these are just the places I like so much
Really love those historical and wild places too :)
I'm glad you enjoyed the tour !
A beautiful and at the same time scary place, I can't imagine being there for just one night, with many stories to tell haha, nice photos.
Haha, I'm not sure I will spend on too ^^ Or else pretty much prepared and equipped in this perspective.., But I join you on the feeling for some parts, as scary than beautiful !!
The views here are breathtaking 😍
I wish i could go to there one day !
😊 I'm please you enjoyed !
A great and amazing place indeed, but you maybe have some closest waterfalls or approaching sites near the place you live ?
No actually there is not any close waterfalls near me. 😐
Ahh damn ! Do you know how far are the closest ones ?
Congratulations, your post has been added to Pinmapple! 🎉🥳🍍

Merci beaucoup. Bonne journée à toi. 🤗
