Cebu, known as the "Queen City of the South", boasts a rich history and cultural heritage, reflected in its diverse array of museums and heritage sites. Few of these popular museums here in Sugbo are USC Museums showcasing a wide and varied collection of artifacts representing Cebu's cultural heritage
THE ROSITA R. ARCENAS GALLERIES
The University of San Carlos Museum is thrilled to unveil two new galleries brimming with history and artistry! These stunning spaces house the remarkable collection of Rosita Arcenas, a visionary banker and real estate developer who passionately collected antiques since the 1950s.
BIODIVERSITY GALLERY
One of the main highlights in this gallery is the different kinds of butterfly display. Each species features a variety and unique colors and patterns making it more attractive to tourists. Butterflies found in this museum has been well-preserved over the years.
ARCHAELOGICAL FINDS
BURIAL JARS
The archaeological artifacts are unique in that they are carved out of limestone. In contrast, most ancient carved out jars found in the other areas of the Philippines are made of clay.
PEOPLE OF CORDILLERA GALLERY
The Ifugao are an indigenous people who lived in the mountainous region of Northern Luzon, Philippines. There were widely knowns for their world class Banaue Rice Terraces or nationally known as Hagdang-Hagdang Palayan ng Banawe. The Banaue Rice Terraces was also part of the “Eight Wonder of the World. Aside from their sophisticated terraces, the ifugao people were also rich in terms of cultural heritage deeply connected with agriculture and ancestral rituals, as well as the different tools they used in everyday life.
BOAYA NECKLACE
This is worn by Ifugao priests and warriors during ceremonies and rituals. It Made from crocodile teeth, rattan, boar's teeth.
All these artifacts can be found in USC MUseums. Before entering the museum, a fee of 25-30 pesos is needed. The museum is open to the public starting from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. from Monday to Friday and 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Saturday, except on holidays.
HOW TO GE THERE
From your location in Cebu City, you can take a ride by Jeepney. Find the nearest jeepney terminal in your location. Be sure to inform the driver that you want to stop at the USC Museum. The ride will approximately take around 20-30 minutes depending in your location and the traffic.
