Located just a few tram stops from the heart of West Berlin, Manufactum is a lifestyle shop that offers a carefully curated selection of high-quality products. From everyday items and kitchenware to gardening tools, interior goods, and clothing, the range is diverse and thoughtfully chosen. Alongside the late-night bookstore Dussmann, which I pinned on Worldmappin recently, it’s one of the must-visit shops whenever I’m in Berlin.
Although not a particularly large store with its two floors, I often find myself spending easily one or two hours browsing inside. Right at the entrance on the first floor, you’ll find the kitchenware section. It’s filled with meticulously crafted, high-quality items that are both functional and beautiful.
Every time I visit, I’m tempted to add new items to my wishlist. This time, I noted down a hand-cranked meat grinder. I used to own one as an attachment for a stand mixer, but after the mixer broke, I started considering getting a simpler, standalone option.
Next to the kitchenware section, the store transitions to displays of alcohol, books, and stationery. The book section seems to have expanded since my last visit, with a noticeable increase in children’s books. I found myself flipping through many of them and losing track of time.
Unsurprisingly, the book selection leans heavily toward cookbooks, as it’s adjacent to the kitchenware section. However, I was delighted to find a variety of books about plants that can be used in cooking—an absolute treasure trove for me!
Before heading up to the second floor, I stopped by a tasting booth for a French syrup brand called Volée. Made with a blend of grape, grapefruit, and elderflower, the syrup contains no added sugar. It offered a refreshing and natural flavor, giving me inspiration for my own shiso syrup-making and sales.
The second floor also offers a lot to explore. Gardening supplies, everyday goods, clothes, and children’s toys are displayed, and of course, the gardening section was my personal highlight 😁
The gardening section features tools, seeds, fertilizers, gloves, vests, bird feeders, and more. My daughter was already excited about growing tomatoes this spring and summer, so I decided to buy a pack of tomato seeds containing five unique varieties for balcony.
After checkout, I was drawn to beautiful items, including a kalimba and a wooden xylophone. The kalimba has now joined my wishlist.
Manufactum is not only loved by locals but also by tourists, making it a great place for finding high-quality German products and unique gifts.
There’s also another Manufactum store in the southwest suburbs of Berlin, near the Botanical Garden. I’m planning to visit during the spring plant market to explore even more!
Manufactum in der Königlichen Gartenakademie in Berlin
If you are a design, cooking, and gardening fan like me, I highly recommend you to visit Manufactum when you are in Berlin.
Happy traveling 🧳
