May your coffee be strong, and your day be beautiful! Good day, Hives! It's me again, Ace26, your Gwapo (handsome) blogger from the Philippines.
Another day, Another blog to be shared and here I am sharing my escapade at the Heritage of Cebu Monument.
About the Heritage of Cebu Monument
The Heritage of Cebu Monument is like a storybook made of stone and metal, It is located at the heart of Cebu City Parian District. This monument is a tribute to the rich history of Cebu.
The Heritage of Cebu Monument was Built in the late 17th century by Chinese merchants, the place houses ancient and present-time artworks, religious images, antique pieces, Cebuano-made,
Filipino artist Eduardo Castrillo is the one who sculpted the Heritage of Cebu Monument together with the late Senator Marcelo Fernan, together with donations from other private individuals and organizations, who funded the construction of the monument. The Construction began in July 1997, and the monument was inaugurated on December 8,2000, after three years.
Whether you’re a history buff or a casual sightseer, a quick stop at this monument is, for m,e, a must when visiting Cebu. And by the way, did I mention that it is free to enter this site?
Quite frankly, there’s nothing much to do here, except snapping pictures of its grand and gigantic sculptures. If, however, you’re fond of history like me, you’ll find the Heritage of Cebu Monument a pretty interesting place to visit.
What events are represented in the Heritage of Cebu Monument?
The Heritage of Cebu Monument tells the story of Cebu’s history through these events:
The Basilica del Santo Niño
The Santo Niño de Cebu has important significance to how the Philippines came to be today. This symbol was first seen when Ferdinand Magellan first came to the island of Cebu and presented the island's ruler with three gifts. One of these gifts was a statue of The Santo Niño.
The Battle of Mactan
Lapu-Lapu, together with the men of Mactan, fought Magellan and the change he wanted to bring with the Spanish flag, Under the leadership of Lapu-Lapu, Magellan and his men were successfully defeated. In the year 1521, April 27.
Saint Pedro Calungsod
Pedro Calungsod, also known as Peter Calungsod and Pedro Calonsor, was a Catholic Filipino-Visayan migrant, sacristan and missionary catechist who, along with the Spanish Jesuit missionary Diego Luis de San Vitores, suffered religious persecution and martyrdom in Guam for their missionary work in 1672.
The monument honours this young Cebuano missionary who became a martyr.
Arrival of Christianity
The monument includes Magellan’s Cross, Magellan's Cross holds a very big part of the history of Cebu. It is believed to be a Christian cross planted by the Portuguese and Spanish explorers headed by Ferdinand Magellan. It was planted upon their arrival in Cebu on March 15, 1521. That day also marked the birth of Christianity in the land.
the Heritage of Cebu Monument is all about Cebu's history, culture and people. It is a place where you can reminisce about the past events of Cebu and how Cebu has changed over the years.so If you visit Cebu, you must include The monument on your list.
