It’s not a secret that the metaverse is something that has faced scrutiny as of late. Meta, the company most associated with the metaverse by the public and business community has taken a large loss this year, and layoffs have been severe. Despite the scrutiny, skepticism and loss the business community is embracing virtual reality and augmented reality along with employees as a bonus.

Meta is a company that is at the forefront of metaverse technology and application development. Meta has suffered for their investment into metaverse application that has been billions of dollars.

The metaverse holds potential. Amazingly, in 2022 74% of businesses have invested into virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technologies and this looks to be the beginning for utilization of metaverse applications.

The metaverse has faced public scrutiny and investor skepticism in 2022. There is a feeling that the metaverse has been prematurely introduced and is without many use cases.

The metaverse can be used for entertainment and business purposes. Many businesses are investing into training and design applications along with collaborative environments. As remote work becomes more pervasive, the metaverse is a place to train new-hires, collaborate and design products. Current business collaboration software programs may limit the effectiveness of teams to collaborate and create. The metaverse holds promise and companies are actively investing into VR and AR technology for their future. The hype and sentiment surrounding the failure of Meta’s investment is just that- hype.

Another amazing statistic is that 65% of employees would remain in their current position if VR was implemented in their job tasks. Since employee turnover costs companies millions annually, this could be a solution to both employee retention issues and collaboration constraints that exist in current collaboration software packages.

Meta has made investments into the future of the metaverse, which will prove to be wise in the future. Businesses and employees are embracing VR and AR technologies and the future looks bright for future development. I am excited to see how this wise investment turns out. This could prove to be years ahead of its time.
