Creepy. Disgusting. Ugly.
I think we can all agree these are some words fitting to describe all cockroaches. Well not all! Turns out there are a few pretty ones.
Just check this bugger out that I stumbled upon today:
Not bad for a cockroach! It really is pretty!
Scientifically described as Polyzosteria mitchelli, it's commonly known as Mitchell's diurnal cockroach or the Mardi Gras cockroach.
Like many weird critters, it's from kangarooland, occuring in semi-arid areas of Western and South Australia and the New South Wales.
It belongs to a group of cockroaches known as bush cockroaches. Most of the bush species are nocturnal but Polyzosteria mitchelli is actually diurnal, about 4 cm long and wingless.
I did some googling on them, other than their striking blue and yellow colors there's really not much else interesting to say about the species...
Unfortunately I couldn't find any videos to include in the post but you can find more pics with a bit of googling. Just search for the scientific or common name :D
Who would thought that a cockroach could be so pretty 🤩 😍
Ok, I hope you enjoyed discovering yet another wonder of nature with me. See you soon with more :D

Even the nastiest creatures can have pretty outliers :D
😁😁😁

that is interesting...I got a certain type of disgusting by the cockroach that I got used in Brazil, but other types of cockroaches don't create the same repulsiveness on me lol
Which one?!
It's still a cockroach. I don't think I can like it even if it looks better than the rest.
Come on, it's pretty!
It may look pretty from the outside, but I'm still disgusted by what's inside 😖
😅😂

Oz has the best beasts!
A cockroach is a cockroach, I’d smash that little fucker with a bat.
A bat?
@tipu curate
Thanks
It's indeed the prettiest cockroach. It's got pretty colors but still creepy crawly. 🤢

Saludos y linda noche de jueves amigo !! 😉🙏🏻!!
Never seen such a colorful cockroach!
that's a very different color there, from a good species.
well I wasnt sure i would ever say this but it is a pretty cockroach LOL

Strange insect, but it looks very beautiful. You found it which is your luck and shared which is a contribution, thanks for the scientific post.
Not the egggg, hanging like that 😤
But I do agree that´s a premium cockroach, I´ve never seen it before.
This is incredible! I'd never seen this kind of cockroach in my whole life. What kind of cockroach is this? I'd love to learn more about this kind of species.
Thanks for sending me to Google. There's a pet for everyone, I guess. There is a whole universe out there of cockroach aficionados. In this roach community, it is much regretted that Australia will not allow the exportation of the critters!! Can you imagine finding one walking across your kitchen floor? Fortunately they probably wouldn't survive even if a roach fanatic imported them and they escaped.
Not pretty to me at all😂. Nice colors...on something else, not a roach.
Yes.. very beautiful. reminds me of a caterpillar. 😊☕
Very cool cockroach you found there. It's still just a roach though when it comes down to it, and at least it doesn't have wings so it can fly!

I'm not a fan of cockroaches, but I guess they must fill a niche in the ecosystem somehow, so the world probably needs them.
Or maybe they're just Earth's insurance policy for if humans blow the world into a radioactive slagheap.
we got those called "earth pig" who looks very similar, but those ones are crustaceans and not cockroach
