I was just watching a series yesterday were they talked about how meat used to be preserved in salt barrels before refrigerators. I just can imagine what the blood pressure was like for people back then.

They were also not or barely eating any hidden salt like in cheese, pizza, cookies, sandwich meats, hotdogs they flushed this away with mainly water and tea not cola and coffee

The difference is, the lifestyle is different. There was definitely a lot more laboring those days to offset what they were taking in.

Yes, that is absolutely true. Much more of an agrarian society (correct term?) back then.
