Hi Hive! It's been a minute. Or several months.
Not quite a year, I don't think, but I've been buried in writing deadlines and have just come through the thick of things. I'm burnt out but oddly happy about it, as I'm incredibly proud of the project I'm wrapping up.
If only I wasn't so damn tired.
I'll have writing updates for you one of these weeks, but for now, I wanted to share the poem that just hopped out of my brain.
Perhaps you have your own thoughts on the subject...
Innocence
Does anyone weather time without
Sacrificing innocence?
Would I, should I have the choice?
Is innocence the embodiment of ignorance, or something purer?
I have no answers.
I hold to optimism, as cynicism rings closer like burning edges on thinning paper.
I hold to faith, as life stretches out, ever more complex. Ever more chaotic.
I see the good things.
The love.
The trees.
The sky.
The waters.
Life is what you focus on,
But it is also more.
There are waves that come when the tide is out,
Eroding the sands of empathy and stealing shells of trust.
There are depths that wait with creatures best forgotten.
There are storms that grow until we can’t see past them.
Where does compassion go to rest?
Joy is the balance.
Sunshine.
Stars.
Creativity.
Kindness.
Perhaps innocence is being able to hope,
Despite the relentless uncertainty of life.
Having gotten that poem out of my head and summoned the energy to share it with you, I will now retire to the couch with a book, as that's all I've got in me right now.
Thanks for reading!
Peace @Katrina-Ariel / @LeiaTalon
Not a bad definition at all!
I love this poem. Gorgeous language. If this just hopped out, you have some fabulous poetry chops.
It has come full circle for me. When the time I had weathered found me in my breeding years, I'd lost innocence entirely. Raising my children via mainstream systems broke me and I had no time for hope, I had to fight just to keep my children alive.
Now that that struggle is no longer mine, I am better able to see how very simple things can be. Joy is always always always within reach. Hope has become palpable, a given.
I also love the hat!
Thank you for such a lovely comment! It's interesting you say it's come full circle for you. That's what one of my closest friends told me. She's maybe a decade my elder, and all but one of her kids are grown. She also has friends who are older than her and says they've all reclaimed themselves in their late 50s and 60s. Isn't it interesting how life has its cycles of change and rebirth?
I really appreciate you reading my poem, and taking the time to share your thoughts. 💖
Innocence is difficult to define, many can say that it is ignorance, being a fool or some also see it as a virtue.
Excellent verses, thanks for sharing.
Good day.
I think we can define it in different ways, depending on our perspectives. As with so many things. Thank you for reading!
Always a pleasure to read words that make you reflect.
An excellent day for you.
Very nice
Aw, thank you! I appreciate you taking the time to read my poetic musings.
'Being able to hope'
That is such a sad addition to this wonderful piece. Gets ya thinking a little bit.

Thank you! Though I think the hope bit isn't the sad part—that's something I never let go of. ;) It's this part I tend to struggle with most these days:
Sometimes, I get so tired of the world's bullshit that it's hard to conjure the compassion I once had.
Life has gotten good and simple things to offer.
Nature(trees, sky, water, love, and the other free gift of life)
The fact you've taken the time to appreciate these things gladdens my heart.
This was so beautiful to read.
This right here.. is so important! We are constantly told to focus on the illusions of life that are created to distract and divide us. And the last bit about hope.. I say that everyday. I give hope where there is none in the world, and keep none for myself.
Nicely done my friend. and I am glad that things are looking up for you and your writing, awesome stuff keep on kickin some butt! 😀
Aw, thank you. I think you should keep some hope for yourself, though. Hope is like love; the more we cultivate, the more there is to share and nourish ourselves. Sending you both! 💖
thanks... I shall keep a small tidbit and share the rest. Indeed I share as much as possible.. the world needs a hug right about now lol.
It sure does. You're an amazing human, in case no one has told you today.
