Walking along the edge of a small Japanese town sandwiched between the sea and a quick-rising mountain ridge, I came upon a temple complex with this written at its entrance.
I wondered, was the person who wrote this message really referring to flowers, maybe the flowers on the long path of a temple pilgrimage, or was he speaking generally about the small details of life—a baby’s smile, the taste of the first strawberries of the year, the feeling of a spring breeze after a long winter, etc.?
the old crow reminds me
starting over is easy
with the ducks on the pond
plastic bottles
and everything
changed
a tiny forget-me-not
left behind by winter
amidst the preparations
for you spring breeze
inching their way forward
stillness in motion
on the temple steps
my companion
Good poem! Interesting thought that you read there, I think it's about enjoying the small things in life. It's easy to take the small things for granted. Life is short, the farther along I get the more I realize it and I try more to enjoy those little things from coffee in the morning to fresh fruits!
Yep. When the day-to-day routine gets put on repeat, time starts to move very fast, and it’s easy to lose awareness of all the things that you actually have right in front of you. It’s funny how things that are so normal to us become slightly invisibile.
I am often struck by the messages written at the entrances to temples and often stop to ponder their content. Many of them seem too high level for me, though😅
The first picture is very nice. It's hard to capture the moment when a bird takes flight on camera.
Up until this day, I had never noticed temples with writing at their entranceways. I must not be looking close enough. This one, luckily, had an English translation. The sign in Japanese was written in calligraphic writing, so I had a hard time reading the kanji in it.
I can be frustrating to walk around with as I love to take in all the minutiae along the way!
And take pictures of them too, I bet. 😉
And you did the Haiku thingy....💝
I’m kind of a one-trick-pony. The haiku are all I do. 🤣
😇😇 Your style is good too💯
😁
I really enjoyed the context you gave to the poem, it expanded the meaning for me. Lovely.
I’m glad to hear it.

Oh, the modern life. 🤣
It used to be,
sitting at the table
cutting out coupons
waiting for the mail
Newspaper coupons
Just nostalgia, or better?
Loyalty cards suck.
The little things in life that matter 💝 I love your pictures!
I’m glad to hear that. Thank you.
