Fragments — A poem about the self

in Freewriters4 years ago (edited)

Hi everyone,

As I was doing my meditation the other day, I suddenly found myself experiencing some form of an identity crisis. It struck me; If I’m not my feelings, not my thoughts, and definitely not the traumas that was inflicted on Kristel in the past. Then who am I?

I realized that while all of this is a very real part of my history, it doesn’t have to dictate who I am now, or who I’ll turn out to be in the future.

They are simply fragments. Fragments of a past lived. And while they will always be a part of me, I’m not willing to let them hold me back in the present. I think I’m ready. To be the vessel that contains all of that, but also so much more.

This is the poem I wrote.

Fragments

The part of you
that does not know who you are,
is still a part of you.

And it is as much a part of you,
as the part that does know who you are.

But the question is then,
Who is all of that?

Thank you for reading <3
