This is my entry to the Writing Prompt by @mariannewest for 13 December 2025, @mariannewest's Freewrite Writing Prompt Day 2950: do me a favor.
“Just do me a favor, mate. Move out of my way, because you are blocking the sun!”, Diogenes said, in response to Alexander’s question.
Alexander had just asked Diogenes if there was anything that he could for him, and this is the astonishing answer that Diogenes gave to the big man!
Diogenes led what we call a frugal life today.
He wasn’t at all impressed by the riches or Alexander’s authority and status.
In fact, it was Alexander who got impressed by the self-sufficient way of living of Diogenes.
This timeless story between Alexander the Great and Diogenes the Cynic shows that although power and wealth are seen as an end itself, they are not.
There are things in life that are considered to be more valuable by people, believe it or not.
Such an example is spending some time to enjoy the sunshine and relax rather than setting yourself a goal to conquer the world…
