I grew up with nearby mountains, and have had them in my vicinity most of my life. The exception was my 15 years in Minnesota, which has a few hills, but no real mountains. Driving up a mountain on snowy roads to a ski hill is quite the experience. So is driving over a mountain pass to visit my sister. Even in the summer I don't entirely enjoy it, especially if I have to pass very many semi-trucks on the freeway. If I lived in Florida I would not miss the ice and snow, but I would not be able to tolerate the heat.

I will take the heat rather than the cold. Most people who move here spend their summers indoors or by the pool. Missouri has the Ozark Mountains, I do not think they are as big as the ones you grew up around.
