Lonely voices

Are the voices of loneliness
That on the paths are sometimes heard
Accompanying the wandering
Of the lonely and sad walker
Arising from who knows where
They seem to shorten distances
With their distant but close call
To the stranger in his ugly wilderness
Perhaps they are walking souls
Whom spite also dragged along
And in their complaints they find solace
With whom they bear their sorrowful burden
They share in mutual solitude
Their grief, hopes or memories
And in resting they renew their strength
They wander away again into the unknown
Their echoes the voices of the desert
They give calm and passing warmth
They accompany and renew
Both going off on a solitary journey
