Magara Festival is a cultural festival and founding anniversary in the town of Carigara , Leyte, Philippines.
Organized by the Municipal Government of Carigara,it is held every January 25th with a week-long schedulein its calendar of activities. January 25 is generally a
special non-working holiday in the municipality.
HISTORY OF MAGARA FESTIVAL
The town of Carigara held numerous festivals previously.
During the term of Eduardo Ong Sr. as mayor, the Magara Festival was conducted for the first time in 2019 as the trademark celebration of the town.
***Its name “magara” means “abundant or elegant.” ***
This fest highlights four areas:
agriculture, history, people, and products.*
Rodolfo Parena and Neil Salarda composed the jingle
used in the Magara Festival, and they were given recognition in 2019.
Magara Festival Activities
Magara Festival showcases sports, contests, entertainment, cultural presentations, and the grand parade consisting of colorful and spectacular festive costumes.

Datu Gara Awards
Datu Gara Awards is named after Datu Gara, the town’s founder before Spanish regime. This award is given to citizens who have brought pride to the town through their excellent works in their respective fields and invaluable contribution to the development of the municipality of Carigara.

Hubhob
Magara festival also promotes hubhob, a local delicacy that showcases the use of agricultural commodities of Region 8 such as cassava and coconut. After mixing all ingredients the mixture then is filled into a bamboo tube called “bagakay “and grilled over a coal.
