Como todo el mundo, me encanta sentirme en armonía con mi entorno, y me gusta también sentirme bien y feliz con todos y todo lo que tengo a mi alrededor; pero debido al país donde vivo, y a mis circunstancias particulares de vida, a veces es algo bastante difícil para mí.

Una situación difícil

Vivo trabajando e ingeniándomelas para conseguir vivir una vida digna y cubrir las necesidades de mi familia, más allá de la difícil situación económica, y de toda índole, que sufre Venezuela. Es por ello que a pesar de mi profesión, tengo una pequeña bodega en mi casa donde vendo víveres, golosinas y diversas cosas más a la gente de mi vecindario. Mi negocio es todo legal, tengo registro comercial, pago mis impuestos y trato de llevar todo el papeleo y los gastos al día.

A mi pequeña bodega (o tienda de comestibles, como se le llama en otros países) llega a comprar gente de todas las profesiones, edades y condición social; pero recientemente me sucedió algo que me causó bastante tristeza; y es que unos pequeños niños (como de 4 o 5 años) fueron a mi bodega a pedirme algo de comer. Lo que me dio tristeza fue que esas pequeñas criaturas tuviesen que andar pidiendo comida a extraños por la calle, porque los padres los mandan a eso, ya que no poseen medios para alimentarlos.

Yo les di algunos panes, y unas galletas, y ellos se fueron gozosos, comiéndose todo aquello. Pero en el fondo, lo que también me causa tristeza es que lo poco que pude darles, no les resuelve en absoluto el problema que tienen en el fondo: Pobreza extrema en un país rico, y con padres que probablemente son irresponsables.

Porque yo entiendo que los padres de estos niños no tengan para comer, y que tengan la difícil situación de tener que pedir comida para alimentar a sus hijos, debido a que en Venezuela existe gran nivel de desempleo y los sueldos de aquellos que tienen empleos tampoco son para nada halagüeños. Y también entiendo que la inflación y costo de la vida en Venezuela es demasiado alto, especialmente si tomamos en cuenta el nivel de ingreso de los trabajadores en general (el salario mínimo de Venezuela es el más bajo de toda la región).

Lo que no entiendo

Pero al margen de todo lo mencionado, lo que no entiendo, ni puedo aplaudir, es el hecho de que dichos padres manden solos a sus hijos a pedir a la calle; con los tantos peligros que ello lleva consigo. Es decir, si uno se ve en la necesidad de pedir comida para darle a sus hijos, lo mínimo que debes hacer, es salir a la calle con ellos, para protegerlos.

Al menos así lo veo yo, y es por eso que les digo que ver toda esta situación me causó una profunda tristeza del alma, porque este no es un caso aislado; sino que es una situación bastante común en mi país. Y sinceramente espero, quizás con ingenuo optimismo, que las autoridades gubernamentales solucionen este tipo de situaciones y ayuden económicamente a esas familias que están en casos extremos de pobreza y necesidad.

Porque la situación para los niños que se encuentran en ese grado de necesidad es triste y crítica; y porque los niños son el futuro del país. Yo, la verdad, lucho para que mis hijos tengan suficiente comida para alimentarse cada día, y me las ingenio bastante bien en ese sentido; pero hay millones de padres que no tienen los recursos, los medios, ni el ingenio para hacer lo que yo hago, por lo que sufren penalidades económicas que terminan generando situaciones tan tristes como la de tener que pedir comida, o peor, tener que andar sacando comida de los botes de basura en las calles.

Como ya dije, sinceramente, espero que este tipo de situaciones se solucionen en el futuro, y que a mi país le espere un brillante futuro por delante, donde la gente tenga empleos dignos y con sueldos dignos que les permitan alimentarse a ellos y a sus familias.

Like everyone, I love to feel in harmony with my surroundings, and I also like to feel good and happy with everyone and everything around me; but due to the country where I live, and my particular life circumstances, it is sometimes quite difficult for me.

A difficult situation

I live working to manage to live a dignified life and cover the needs of me and my family, beyond the difficult economic situation, and of all kinds, that Venezuela suffers. That is why, despite my profession, I have a small store in my house where I sell groceries, sweets and various other things to the people in my neighborhood. My business is all legal, I have a commercial registry, I pay my taxes and I try to keep all the paperwork and expenses up to date.

People of all professions, ages and social conditions come to my small bodega (or grocery store, as it is called in other countries); but recently something happened to me that caused me a lot of sadness; and it is that some small children (about 4 or 5 years old) went to my grocery store to ask me for something to eat. What makes me sad was that these little creatures have to go around asking strangers for food on the street; because their parents send them to do that, since they don't have the means to feed them.

I gave them some few loaves and some cookies, and they went away joyful, eating all that. But deep down, what also makes me sad is that the little I was able to give them does not at all solve the problem they have at heart: extreme poverty in a rich country, and with parents who are probably irresponsible.

Because I understand that the parents of these children do not have enough to eat, and that they have the difficult situation of having to ask for food to feed their children, because in Venezuela there is a high level of unemployment and the salaries of those who do have jobs are not flattering. And I also understand that inflation and the cost of living in Venezuela are too high, especially if we take into account the income level of workers in general (Venezuela's minimum wage is the lowest in the entire region).

What I do not understand

But apart from everything mentioned, what I do not understand, nor can I applaud, is the fact that said parents send their children alone to beg on the street; with the many dangers that this entails. That is, if you find yourself in need of asking for food to give your children, the least you should do is go out with them, to protect them.

At least that's how I see it, and that's why I tell you that seeing this whole situation caused me a deep sadness in my soul, because this is not an isolated case; instead it is a quite common situation in my country. And I sincerely hope, perhaps with naive optimism, that the government authorities solve this type of situation by financially helping those families who are in extreme cases of poverty and need.

Because the situation for children who are in that degree of need is sad and critical; and because children are the future of the country. I, honestly, fight so that my children have enough food to feed themselves every day, and I manage quite well in that sense; but there are millions of parents who do not have the resources, means, nor possibility to do what I do, for which reason they suffer economic hardships that end up generating situations as sad as having to ask for food, or worse, having to walk taking food out of trash cans on the streets.

As I already said, I sincerely hope that this type of situation will be resolved in the future, and that a bright future awaits my country ahead, where people have decent jobs and decent wages that allow them to feed themselves and their families.
