Losing weight without the exercise

I saw this shared by someone on Facebook and boy do I already have a lot to say about it.

There are many people that seem to think of the question "How do you lose weight without working out?" as either a trick question or as a way to demonstrate that it is impossible to lose weight unless you are physically active.

I myself, have thought about this for a long time and generally ask myself this question on most evenings after working all day long and feeling really tired. On those evenings, I don't want anyone to suggest that I should get out and run. I’m not exactly lazy but I really do not enjoy physical activity that much. I see some guys so pumped up before they go lift weights and I admire how excited someone can be about getting drained.

I previously paid for a gym membership and only went to the gym three times. When I went the last time, it took me longer to tie my shoes than it took to lift anything.

I have become more aware of my food choices than ever. In the past, while I wasn’t serious about the type or quantity of food I ate, for example, there were days that I ate simply because I was bored, and on other days, I had food in front of me and didn't feel like eating, I have now stopped buying certain kinds of cookies for my bedroom desk and have subsequently lost some weight. I can’t say that I lost weight strictly due to not having cookies available or simply a decrease in my stress levels.

My food choices also relate to how much I eat. As I was growing up, my parents often stated that everything on your plate must be eaten or you're not leaving the dining area. Leaving food left on your plate was, to me, rude to do even though I was full. I now leave a couple spoonfuls of rice on my plate at the end of the meal, although I continue to have conflicted feelings about the decision to leave food behind. But by making that choice, I did not cause the earth to stop revolving did I?

I'm not suggesting this as the best advice. I still eat at night and still do everything possible to avoid exercising. I know that movement is very important to a person's overall health, as many believe, but this is a continually evolving opinion of mine.

There are probably no exciting ways to lose weight without working out and there are reasons that losing weight by anything other than active means is a gradual and slow process that you probably will not notice if you are distracted by other matters in your life, particularly your job. I am continuing to grow through educating myself on this and see what the real fact on the ground is.
