She had been scouring the papers, looking for any job she could remotely qualify for. Unemployment was about to run out and savings had long ago been exhausted. This job looked good. It was a lead from her neighbor, and better than that, the neighbor had recommended her.
This time, Rachel was meeting someone who actually expected her and not an anonymous applicant.
The dress was perfect. Red. A warm, suggestive color. Flared just slightly at the hip. The only shortcoming was, you could see through it. She located a slip she hadn't worn for years. Nobody wore slips anymore.
As she opened the office door her heart leapt. The receptionist gave her a quizzical look. Yes, that was definitely an odd look.
What was it? She rubbed her nose. Maybe something there? She pushed her hair back.
Still, that look. What could it be?
"Ms. Simmons?"
"Yes, I'm here for an interview."
Smile, she told herself. Exude confidence.
The receptionist lowered her voice, "I hope you don't mind, dear, but... your slip. Pull your slip up". The receptionist pointed at the hem of the red dress.
Rachel looked down and laughed. Her slip was hanging out! That's all. She laughed and adjusted the slip.
"Thank you so much."
The receptionist smiled broadly. A good sign. A very good sign. Everything was going to be fine.
This was written for @mariannewest's 5 minute freewrite. The prompt was 'slipup'. Link to the prompt may be found here. Thank you, Freewriters. This was fun, again.
