My Song, a freewrite

What gives one the authority to lord it over another in any way? Why must I register my car, insure my car, pay taxes on the purchase of my car, which I bought it with funds from my own meager store of USD, made more meager by taxation, used to administer the taxes I am demanded to pay on every dollar I earn by the sweat of my own flesh.

Whew!

I wonder where that came from?

I know! It’s my broken record!

We the people are getting screwed, again, as if there has even ever been a time during which we were not being screwed. My favorite song.

We are being forced to shop at the company store regarding medical choices via the health insurance scam. We borrow money from banks to get the services sold at the company store, because taxes.

We are also highly encouraged by conventional sources to borrow from banks – indebtedness for life - just to have a roof over our heads. “It’s good for you, can’t you tell?” is written all over the packaging. Can anyone spell mortgage?

Remember the Joads, or do we not teach Steinbeck in the indoctrination camps any more?

We go into lifelong debt to banks just to pay for our being alive in the first place.

Most of us think this is all normal.

How much more surreal is this going to have to get?

Even scarier: how much more surreal can it get?

This is my entry to @mariannewest's daily freewrite challenge. Today's prompt is the authority.

I spent a lot of time spiffying this up, but it is mostly a freewrite. My favorite subject, my most sung song. Thank you for reading it.

..... and then.... at the end of the year, you pay your taxes! 😄

.... and then, the criminal leaders take a big hunk for themselves and spend the rest on their cronies..... and then say "we don't have enough to fund the really important stuff.

That was the second verse....LOL!

This is the song that doesn't end
it just goes on and on my friend
some people started singing it not know what it was
and they'll continue singing it forever just because...

That's my favourite song too. Maybe we can sing a duet.

Karaoke in Mexico? We'd have an appreciative audience.

How do we avoid the banks? My paternal grandfather did. Everything (large farm, many properties) paid for in cash. When he died, though, it was rumored that a family member looted his safe at home.

Of course, all the properties were owned free and clear...so I guess they couldn't loot that. I don't know because my family was estranged.

Commentary on banks, or human nature?

Both! We cannot envision any other way, yet banks are a fairly recent thing. Crypto is one way, and folks are getting really good at using this. As for USD and other fiat, I pay cash for everything I can; I try to keep my money in circulation in my community by paying cash. I do have to make a withdrawal from the bank to do this, and my income is automatically deposited into one. I owe nothing, no mortgages or credit cards at all. I do not charge for homeopathic consultations, and often receive gifts in return, bartering I suppose. I'm slowly moving toward a more independent financial state. It's possible. But will require work. And vision.

My husband and I are not free of the banks, I'm afraid, but at our age we are free of debt. Wouldn't that be a horror, facing the end with debt? Because I grew up poor--and also because I am a student of history--I'm ready for calamity. I would be horrified, but not surprised, if the whole system collapsed tomorrow.

Challenge is--will be--to survive when that day comes.

Good! Not being in debt will be a huge leg up at that time. Which does look as though it can't be helped, if not looking like it is being deliberately manipulated, slow motion, killing us softly.

Neither my husband nor I have ever taken a loan for anything, we save up and pay cash for our trucks. We do not have credit cards either.

The other day, I was wondering why we have to buy boat registration every year. They do nothing with the river to charge us a tax; the same applies to fishing licenses.

Yes. I understand the laws are needed to govern the lawless, but the brunt of the onerous tasks involved fall on the lawful, you and me. The lawless just keep fishing, or driving or whatnot, without jumping through all those hoops.

Very true words, not heard this previously in song, or don't remember.

Heard one of our youth podcasters saying similar, at nineteen he appeared so happy to eventually see what a rotating door lifestyle people are falling into.

Happy New Year, keep paying being screwed by tax and all other evils that are so evident.
