This is my post for #freewriters Monday prompt rest her soul hosted by @mariannwest
She was 16 married to a 32-year-old man who had 2 kids and she was 3 months pregnant with my older brother.
2 years later she had me, I was maybe 3 months old
My Mother was the strongest woman that I have ever known, her Faith was strong, and no matter how bad things were, she always turned to God. When my youngest brother passed away, I was laying with her and as she rubbed my head she said, Cissy, sometimes God reaches down and picks the flowers. I can still hear her saying that to me. She lost both of her sons and now rest her soul she is with them. When we lost her I told my sister that it was their turn with her.
She loved to fish, and grouper was her favorite to eat, but she would not turn down a mullet or yellow roe, she did not like the white roe.
She could shuck an oyster better than any man. Dad built this house for her. When they first moved to the inlet they lived in a tent, then she said Dad started the house but they did not have money for the roof. They lived a long time in the house with a tarp for the roof. They raised 7 kids in it.
I am maybe 4 or 5 years old and I was my mom's shadow.
After the turtles laid their eggs on the beach, we would ride them back to the edge of the ocean. They would put us under the jail if we tried it today.
I was sitting in Mom's front yard talking with her, and out of the blue, she tells me how she wanted her things split between me and my sisters. I snapped this picture of her, it was 3 days later she had a massive stroke. I will always wonder if she knew something was wrong.
There are no words that can say how much I miss her. I love you, Mom.
Thank you
