This Green Turtle got caught on my fishing line, most people would have cut their line and not worried about what might happen to the turtle dragging a long piece of fishing line. I pulled my anchor so I would not break the line and reeled until I got him to the boat. I grabbed his two back flippers next to the shell and lifted it in my boat. As it swam by my line, one of my hooks got hooked on a tumor, I got it out and released the turtle.
Now I will tell you that what I did is totally illegal. I would have gotten a huge fine if I was seen with it in my boat, but I will do it again and again rather than let one go by cutting my line.
This is what happens when a line is cut or a line with hook and bait was on this stick, I can not say for sure what happened first. I came across this turtle tangled in a fishing line that was tangled around a stick. I got him cut loose and I hope he is still swimming free.

So glad you did what you did, illegal or not. Supposed "laws" and "regulations" that are against basic human kindness are not laws at all - they are immoral shackles.

One should have a soft spot in the heart for living beings. Although releasing the turtle was an illegal act, you did a very good job.
Thank you, but releasing it is not what was illegal, it was putting it in my boat to get my line off of it is what was illegal. I am not supposed to touch them. The same goes for land turtles that we call gopher turtles, they are always crossing roads and people stop and remove them from the road. To pick them up and move them off of the road is illegal. It is crazy how our laws are set up. In the eyes of the law, we are to leave them alone, even if it means something bad will happen to them. In my eyes, this is not right.

Laws passed with promises of good intent but leading to destructive results and penalties for folks who do the right thing? Heaven forbid!
Sometimes you have to break the law to save a life, if they want to fine me for it, I will have to pay the fine because I will always help something in need of help.
