A picture is worth a thousand words

I once had a dog
His name lost in the waves of time
It was decades and aeons ago
Brown skin and the most beautiful eyes.
I loved him
You could have loved him
Everybody did.
He was the most lovable friend I ever made.
A welcoming hug everyday at the entrance,
A happy handshake to gladden the heart
I have never loved another that way again.
One day, a careless drive, a careless swerve
A broken hip bone
And some delay in medical care.
My best friend walked into the kitchen,
There we were laughing and chatting
But he looked at us
Every single one of us
With eyes like angel's
But glazed with sadness
And we smiling and touching his face
Did not know it was his last stare,
His goodbye call.
Then out he walked
Only to be searched and found three days later
In the woods close by,
Dead and gone.
With it went my heart,
I still mourn after decades
So much regrets, so much “I wish”.
I have never been able to love another again.
And if I do
The fear of loosing grips me.
