Craving for A Ray of Hope

in Freewriters2 years ago (edited)

How often do you rewatch a documentary? Maybe a couple of months later you came across or remembered about that documentary and sat tight to rewatch it. I do that rarely, maybe most of us would say the same. I don't know exactly, would love to hear from you. Well, this topic came as one of the documentaries that made me do that. I have mentioned this a few times to my friends and when it appeared before me today I went to rewatch it. It has a few things to extract, different people would extract different things, depending on your viewing angles. Months back I had taken it in a way, and now I have explored a few more aspects to discuss. So let's begin.

So this one is about a 29 years old American guy, named Ross Ulbricht, who ran the largest online drug market known as Silk Road on the dark web starting in 2011 and serving lifetime imprisonment now. His attempt to get the freedom of rights made him start this initiative, starting from drugs this market became a hotspot for weapons too, and later they removed that from there. This documentary covers his rise from a brilliant student to the "Dread Pirate Roberts" of that ship running the largest drug market where these trades used to be done anonymously.

We get a complete idea of how he went up, how his surroundings acted how he dealt with them, and also saw the steps from law enforcement agencies too. Months ago, I was astonished by Ulbricht's moves, curiously imagining how he was going to be caught, and about the empire he built. But today, I got a deeper view, an idea about the law enforcement agency's moves, their working methodologies, his online traces that were used to track him down, his one mistake in the past that haunted him down. In Cyber Security, this is called OSINT investigation, a very easy step but needs proper intelligence to bring out the pearl out of the mess of data, and that's what they got. OSINT is kinda scary, how? You would understand if you start digging into this, I did so I commented on this.

Well, today I noticed the letter he sent to the judge, regarding his sentence. See above, he was a boy of around 30, so his mid-age and old age were left ahead, he wanted his old age to be spared because he was given lifetime imprisonment, what will he be living for? To breathe until he gets to meet his death? He asked for a ray of hope, maybe a promise to get freedom at least in his old age, to be set free, and to get back to the open world. But he didn’t get that as his crimes were beyond that request. We all search for a ray of hope in our darkest times, something to live for, something to keep moving ahead. This documentary had so many things to look at, this part made me write this one, giving that link below,

If you have any noteworthy documentaries in mind please do share them with me. I am interested in topics like crime, tech, gaming, web3, innovation, geopolitics, economy, and many more, except motivation because I have had enough of it.
