We all have a fond past
to which we would like to return, however fleeting,
a point in life forever memorable
that in silent nights haunts us tenaciously.

That is nostalgia, perfidious lady,
that no matter how long the years go by without ceasing
that one day persists, dwells and dwells
whispering in our ear when we go to dream.

We cease to live the present in vain,
longing only for that distant yesterday
that stopped in the memory did not go away.

It is as if in such a time we had died,
becoming souls of an eternal return to that past that never happened.
