Broken marriages have become a thing of worry in today's society. It's obvious that the over-hyped union called marriage has lost its core value. The primitive lives of our parents saw them remain in their marriages without fighting for a divorce. This kind of makes me wonder if civilization is causing more harm than good when it comes to marriage. Before I continue, it is important to state what marriage is and what it's supposed to look like.

How Do You Define Marriage?

Marriage in my definition is a legal union of two adults who have chosen against all odds to remain together in every situation till death. In religious terms, it is a sacred union between a man called husband and a woman called wife, ordained by God himself Genesis 2:24

God in his marriage promises, didn't promise days without pain neither did he promise laughter void of sorrow, but one thing he did promise is the strength to move past downs when they arise.

But of course, some of God's laws no longer hold water to the people of this world as we have reshaped the nature of marriage to what suit us. May God forgive us for such insanity.

An Ideal Marriage

People fall victims to broken marriages because they fantasize a lot. So many people picture marriage as a perfect union but what they fail to understand is that two imperfect people can't be perfect because they are married to one another. As a matter of fact, marriage is a union of imperfection.

However, an ideal marriage must have the following ingredients, pleasure as well as pain, excessive laughter without neglecting sorrow, submissiveness against pride, communication, mutual respect, understanding, and above all love. The view of marriage as a perfect union is a fantasy and cannot lead to a lasting stay.

Let's not forget that what prompted this write-up is the high rate of broken marriages. Now, I ask, why do people get married when they can't stay married? Yeah why? In their defense, they didn't plan it that way. Their partner changed along the journey of marriage. Sir, Ma'am, have you bothered to know what brought about the change, or is your first instinct to run off at every ugly situation?

Don't get me wrong, I personally believe in the dissolution of marriage on the ground of infidelity or domestic violence. Anything other than these two should be sorted out through effective communication.

Role Models Contributions to the high rate of Broken Homes.

This is how Mr. A and B act in their marriage. This alone has killed many marriages, especially during this era of social media. My wife or husband cannot try this shit, please do not listen to them. Communicate with your partner. Air your grievances and seek resolution to them.

Recently, the so-called celebrities have become agents of broken marriage themselves. I know of people who have been in three failed marriages and are now single and claim to be a marriage therapists. I wonder what such a person has to offer, probably breaking your marriage 101.

These popular people called celebrities need to up their games becomes so many people are learning from them, especially the underage. Anyway, let me not dwell so much on that side.

The bottom line is making marriages work should be our aim before thinking of getting married. Planning must come first before saying the word I do else you will find yourself not doing anymore.

Before I lay off, Know this if you don't already know it, Love alone cannot keep you married.

You are so correct, I’ve lost count on how many celebrities have filed for divorce this year alone or the high rate of infidelity in married men and women it’s getting scary and discouraging.

Honestly, it's beginning to bother me and scare me at the same time. How do two people fall completely out of love? Like how do you go from "crazy in love" to "out of love"? It's scary.

That's because what people think is love is just obsession and addiction. That you want to be around someone and the person makes you happy doesn't mean you love the person. The first step is understanding what love truly is. And to understand love is knowing God because He is love Himself

Hmmmmmmmm🤔🤔🤔
This makes so much sense. Thank you.

It's really not good to compare your relationship not to talk of marriage, comparing kills the marriage

Their actions are really discouraging and I don't get why someone will say I do but can't be faithful to it. The value of marriage is far lost
