Fledgling: Part 22

Hello readers

Happy New Year. I hope this year will be easier on everyone's stress and wallets!

Saita held her hands up, “You do not have to…”

“I started opening up when you came here. You are the cause of all this, you will listen.”

Saita, despite being centuries older than this form of herself, immediately fell silent and waited to learn far more than she wanted.

“Imagine when I showed up at their house, drunk out of my mind, not making any sense, and basically throwing myself at them. The poor guys. They did the only thing they could. Got me to drink copious amounts of water until I passed out. After which, I was given one of their rooms while that twin slept on the couch. Imagine my horror at waking up in someone else’s bed when I came to the next day. Now picture my absolute shame when I came out of the room, and the twins had breakfast ready for when I woke, waiting for an explanation.”

The queen buried her head in her hands and laughed, “Gods, I was such a mess. Didn’t even think twice about blurting out why I had been there the night before. That and accusing them of doing things I know they didn’t. To say they suffered emotional whiplash was an understatement. I only snapped out of it when they hugged me. Cried like a damn child. Terrified of their touch but craving it. They knew, they understood, but they didn’t let go until I stopped crying. I couldn’t decide, didn’t want to decide; wanted to stay, yet wanted to flee.”

Understanding that Kay needed a break, Saita said, “Astec and I never got back together after the four years I was gone.”

Saita paused to help herself to something to eat and drink.

Kay lowered her hands and said, “I’m sorry about that.”

“Don’t be. I met a wonderful man afterward.”

Quick wit allowed the queen to make the connection, and she said, “This Bolx who is with Aidan. Bolx isn’t a human name though, is it? Saith?”

“Yes.” Saita smiled. “He made me so happy for so many years. The bastard got me pregnant with twins for our first children. A miracle really, I never should have been able to bear children. I spent nearly a day in labour with them. Which is why I need to get him back. The only reason I was able to finally have the strength to birth them was because he was there to give it to me.”

“I see, but travelling within your own timeline is dangerous. If you die now…”
“I don’t want to think about it. I just want to ensure that I can send Bolx back to when he needs to be, so I can have my happy ending.”

“I don’t know how I can help you.”

Saita paused, thinking of any conceivable way that she could be helped. Unfortunately, she couldn’t think of anything other than to wait and hope to be found. The other alternative was to ask for a Heavenly, but other than Matta, she had no trust in another Heavenly.

“I don’t know either, I don’t even know how I managed to arrive here. It must have been on my mind as I panicked.”

“Perhaps. All the same, I always wondered what happened to you and if you got what you wanted.”

“There was far more good than bad up until now.”

“More good than bad, huh.” The queen sighed and placed a hand on her belly. “I suppose you’re right. After everything, more good came from it.”

“Is this one a boy or girl?”

“She’s a girl. We were thinking of naming her after my mother after her sister was named after her other grandmother.”

“A big step to take for you.”

“My mother never wanted me to be hurt. It took a long time to realise all she wanted was the best for all of us. She didn’t know what Edzeeker was planning.”
“Looks like you have come a long way and should be proud.”

“Well, you know what the love of a good partner can do, and I was lucky enough to have two to help me fight my demons.” The queen looked at her and said, “I believe I can have a question now.”

“Go ahead.”

“Tell me more of this Bolx.”

“I haven’t seen him in 100 years. It has been hell.” Sighed Saita as she launched into how she had met Bolx and how he had finally broken down all her defences.
The queen listened in silence. Amazed at everything her counterpart had gone through, wondering if she would have been as strong in her place. Every word Saita spoke was filled with emotion and every now and again the woman had to pause and catch her emotions. Kay was almost startled out of her own feelings when Saita asked, “How did the twins decide the order of the children.”

Kay blushed and blurted, “They asked for it this way.”

Saita snorted.

“Wait, hold on, it’s more complicated than that.” Stammered Kay.

Talk about putting your foot in your mouth. Well done, your Majesty!
