Marmalade and whipped cream was all over her face, she smiled shyly sorting the spoons in front of her. From smallest to largest.
“I will go to heaven,” she said, “when they bury me in the ground!”
“Do not talk of death child while you eat cake,” the grandmother said. “There is no GOD, there is no ground. It is all just tales from old books.”
The girl took another of the large cakes and put it on her plate. “So why did they write it in those books?”
At that moment the mechanism creating the artificial gravity had another one of its malfunctions, the cakes started lifting up in the air spinning slowly in front of the girl.
“When we arrive we will again have both ground and gods. I promise,” the grandmother said, “but until then we have to do without.”
___ More stories. I have stopped doing the Killer Soduko - bloody waste of time. But I need some time doing silly things. So therefore these stories. Much faster than doing logical puzzles.
And much better for me! I love your stories. I waste time on wordle and connections from the NYTimes most days. Today I am stuck on the connection among these four: K, bubblegum, euro, and power.
This story is a lovely mix of magical realism and sci fi. The connection between ground and gods is tasty. Yum yum. When the ground is artificial, so are any gods.Gods cannot exist without reliable gravity. Books contain lies about gravity and gods. Lots of thoughts to chew on from this one, as usual in your stories.
Well, I often do one wordle in Danish. They call it Wørdle :) I can do that in a few minutes. That is like nikotin gum.
Fiction, I find it so tough to write. Mort, not so.., we need some basis to go on, do you have that?
To be honest I just write the first words and then make it up as I go along. I'm probably lousy to write about my early years of Mcjobs. Haven't tried though.
I am a terrible escapist so trying to be somewhere else has taken up load of my time through the years.
Keep them coming. I don't have to know what you are thinking to enjoy these. Are you drawing too?
I will :) Yes, I am also drawing. A lot of it on paper. I am sort of between projects, my girls have grown up and are leaving home, so I will have some time to make it get together in the fall.
"Marmalade and whipped cream was all over her face." Brilliant! I just had to read the rest once I'd read those words.
The first words that came into my mind. Hadn't got any idea what it would lead to :)
Always the best way to write, or so I find. It lets the old subconscious do its thing.
