Paper and screen

in Freewriters7 months ago (edited)

A while ago I decided that my life should have more paper in it.

Paper is a beautiful material. Nice to touch, Nice to smell, made from cheap wood, hemp, grass, old cotton underwear.

I like to print on it, I like to write on it even though my handwriting is shaky and unpredictable.

I like to burn it, wrap things in it, bake bread on it.

But most of all i like to draw on it and read from it.

Screens are magic mirrors of light. But they lack beauty, and can't be used for any practical things on toilets.

Oh yes! I still get a newspaper delivered every day. I love the sound and smell, the tangible news. I clip out articles to remember things by. I love to crack open a book at night and escape to a different world. I gotta get better at writing letters, for my children to find decades hence. Lovely painting, serene. More serenity please!

Paper is for me definitely connected to serenity. It is memory in a very material way.

My art goes other ways I must admit. The tendency right now is in a darker direction. But this one was made on a peaceful evening with me trying out things in digital painting, that can't rival what you can do on paper, only mimic it in a way.

I still read a lot on paper. I have read plenty of ebooks, but I get paper books as gifts. We also get a couple of newspapers each week. I have cut down on magazines though. I used to buy some about guitars and computers, but all that content is online these days and I only read a few articles anyway.

I received a batch of comics from @drwatson recently (from a Kickstarter I donated to ages ago). Those are signed and I don't see a digital equivalent of that. Of course I have your signed book too. If you remember I bought several copies to make the postage reasonable and gave away the others at a meetup.

Yea, especially comics is much better on paper, the internet does give you an audience that I would rather not be without. It's good of you to support us comic artist. :)

I myself am very fond of reading books since my childhood, I used to read stories as a child and then when I became mature, I read a lot of books about life, how we can live a good life and What are the special things that are in our life, by which people also respect us and we also live a life of honor in this world. It was a good time when things had to be read on top of books and now people are reading on mobiles.

Mobiles tend to make the reading short and confused, so I agree that the world you can enter through books is much richer.

Yeah I totally agree with you.
